002 to Monitors....

Howdy,

So a few of my mates have a similar setup to me at home, and instead of going from the 002 into the monitors they have a mixer, just a cheap one, in between...

For what purpose is this?
 
An "002" what? Mixers mix multiple sources to fewer outputs, or can be used to adjust the equalization (tone settings), or add f/x. Typically you want your monitors to tell you exactly what your recorded sound is, you don't want to adjust anything on the sound going to them, other than the volume perhaps.
 
I think you are referring to a Digi002, and if you are, I can't think of a blessed reason for using a mixer between the monitor outs and the monitors, except for additional routing options to build custom headphone mixes. Stacking the pres like that degrades the signal to the most important place it goes- the monitors. I wouldn't do it.-Richie
 
Sorry, yes Digi002. Thanks though, it was driving me nuts wondering why they did it.
