001 w/Samson C03=Problems

Ok my boy is running a digi001 with an NT1-A or whatever the hell lol and he wants to connect my samson C03 just to toy around with and see what it can do but the only problem is that when we connect the C03 to the 001 and turn on the phantom power nothing happens...any ideas on what's going on? The C03 works. I run it on my PC using the MXL Mic Mate for phantom power and have absolutely no problems with it what so ever so I really can't tell what the problem would be.

First off all the c03u wont record into pro tools since it is a usb mic
and how can you run it through a mxl mic mate if its usb and not xlr?
the c03u doesnt need phantom power since it has a built in pre-amp...
So is this story made up?
