    Gonna Die for the Dow

Steve, Rich, Thanks for the feedback! I tweaked the hi hats a bit but when I pulled it lower, it seemed to lose energy. Maybe it’s an EQ issue more than level?

    Gonna Die for the Dow

Thanks! Regarding how musicians used to do protest songs, well I’m a Grandfather of three, so I guess I’m a throwback. 8^)

    Rapidly Distoring Echo

Yeah, I want a fade curve that builds to a crescendo, then fades. That'll be easy though, since I can just retrack the effect after I've perfected it, and put that recording on a track that I then put a fade curve on.

    Rapidly Distoring Echo

Thanks guys! Ashcat, say more about crossover distortion... You folks get the basic idea, although I just wanted this effect on the lead vocal, briefly. I can simulate it the way you each suggested, although it would be nice to use a dedicated plug-in, just so I would have more control over...

    Rapidly Distoring Echo

Hey folks, I have an effect in my head, but I'm looking for advice on the best way to achieve it. The Effect: On a song I am producing there is a key word, "anger" that I want to echo about seven times. Each echo should get increasingly distorted until the seventh echo is unintelligibly...

Thanks, Brut! Yeah, that drummer is a mofo. He teaches jazz drumming at many of the UNC campuses here in NC. I got tons more material that I'll post as I get closer in my mixdowns...

    Digital Noise!

Thanks man. I'll play around with kicks, but that one was the result of a long night of auditioning kicks in Battery, so I'm not sure I can find one that works better for me. Thanks for the feedback, Steve! I record vocals the same way (Neumann U-89 into SCA N72 preamp into Apogee Symphony...

    Digital Noise!

Hey Folks, Thanks a gazillion for the feedback on my sister's project's previous tune Fantasy and Reality Here's another I'd love feedback on. Some of the drum fills needs to be tweaked, but otherwise, I'm getting close to happy with it. Once again, my special sister is on vocals, my...

    Fantasy and Reality

Thanks for the great feedback folks! Especially the specific suggestions! There seems to be a consensus about the intelligibility of the vocals, which I'm not sure I can do much more with. Stay tuned for an updated mix and more stuff from this project.

    Recording with compression settings

What hardware compressor are you using? Aside from nice boutique units (Expressor, 1176, L2D4, etc...), I can't see any advantages to printing compression from lower end hardware over some of the plug-ins available.

    Fantasy and Reality

VHS, Yes, that's my attempt to get the vocals up front. If I mix them musically, they're almost entirely unintelligible, if I mix them for intelligibility, they are less musical. Given the premise of this project is to feature my sister's lyrics, I went for the latter.

    Fantasy and Reality

I would love some mix feedback on this tune, which is the presumed lead track for a full album project. I need to provide a bit of background, first. The lyrics are very hard to understand. This is because the project features my developmentally disabled sister. She has Downs Syndrome and...

    Dual Mono Compression

Y'all are probably right, although i might record through compressor without compressing for tranny sound. My interest is that I'm loving processing drums through plugin versions of 1176, and I remember producers I worked with in the past (Don Dixon, Mitch Easter from REM's first album) who...
