1935 Gibson Laptop Elec. Slide Guitar

I recently inherited this one-piece aluminum laptop, Gibson's first electric guitar (Model E-150), and a 1930s OAHU laptop as well. Supposedly, here were only 98 produced. Serial numbers started at 110 in 1935 and production went to early 1936. This one is SN 159. Some were scrapped for salvage...

    Passive Studio Monitor Help

My old Tannoy Reveal monitors have seen better days and I'm pretty sure the right channel of my Alesis RA-150 amp is failing. So, I'm replacing them. No problem finding a decent amp. I've decided on the Crown XLi 800 (XLi 800 | Crown Audio - Professional Power Amplifiers). For my apartment...

    2 x 12 vs stereo montors

I recently bought a very nice Marshall DSL100H Guitar Amp Head, and I'm thinking about just buying or building a 2 x 12 enclosure for it because I live in an apartment these days and don't really need that huge sound of a 4 x 12. For that matter, I took the head to my amp tech to get it checked...

    Old MOTU 828 from 2001?

I have an old MOTU 828 (built 2001) that worked great with my old Sony VAIO. Recently I bought a nice Dell XPS8910-7020BLK (IntelCore i7-6700 CPU @ 3.40GHz) with Nvidia GTX750 Ti Graphics & Windows 10. I installed a SIIG DP Firewire 2-Port card hoping to be able to use the MOTU. Haven't yet...

    Marlboro acoustic ?

Marlboro unknown (from Marlboro points plus $ shipping/handling) A friend gave me this new "Marlboro" guitar a couple of yrs ago. Aside from the binding, it looks a lot like a Martin D-28, although it's a bit heavier than the few Martins I've played. The tuners look just like Martins, but they...

    EACGGE etc...tuning

For quite some time I've been trying to find "easier" ways of playing. Here's the latest thing I stumbled onto. I picked up my acoustic the other day, and for some reason the B string was tuned down to G. I have no idea how it got that way. For the moment, I ignored the 2d string and tuned...

    Charvel/Jackson ?

Couple of quick questions about this Charvel/Jackson. I installed an old di'marzio in the bridge position some time ago, and now this thing really screams. Only trouble is that the pots don't seem to have much function to them. I assume one is "supposed" to be for tone and the other for vol, but...

    Steve Vai's "Naked" tracks

Check this out - http://www.vai.com/nakedtracks/index.html Steve Vai has released 53 of his songs, minus the lead part, in mp3 format. You can purchase them by the album ($7.99) or download individual songs for $0.89 each. I did notice that a few of the songs are not available, for whatever...

    Guitar lessons "On-Demand" on cable

Haven't been here in a while, so I'm not sure if this has been mentioned. Comcast has been broadcasting (On-Demand tv) "free" guitar lessons lately. I assume that other cable companies are also showing these lessons. Satriani and Petrucci were recently featured. Guitar World is currently doing a...

    Marolboro promo guitar?

A friend of mine gave me one of those Marolboro promotional guitars that I'm letting a student use until he buys a guitar for himself. I have no idea who builds these guitars or even where they're made, because there are absolutely no markings on them at all. I tightened the truss rod, and...

    bone nut ?

The last time I had my early 70s sg in the shop (Wayne Kamp's Custom Guitars) for a setup, he told me that the nut (bone) was pretty much worn down to the point that I should consider replacing it. He pointed out a couple of the notches (the A and the low E) where he had built them "up" using...

    ElectroVoice PA Bible

    Whammy + Wah-Wah=?

Anyone here ever tried to use their whammy pedal at the same time as their wah-wah pedal? I have a digitech whammy and a vox wah-wah, and if you're pretty light on your feet you can make some killer waves. A bit tricky, but check it out for those extended lead solos.
