    Stephen Paul's tunes

I know most of you here have probably already listened to Stephen Paul's tunes, but for those of you that haven't, here is the URL: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/99/stephen_paul.html You can get an idea of what his mics can do. Listen to the incredible airy quality to the vocals on "Brand...

I vaguely remember someone saying that Shure will trade a new 57 for a broken on for a nominal fee. Does anyone know anything about this? Taylor

    Vs-840

I have a friend that is interested in a VS-840. I don't know anything about these machines. I know one model was an upgraded machine. Was that the EX model? Is there anything he should be aware of as far as shortcomings or advantages to any of the versions of it? Taylor

    Old house for studio

I recently acquired the use of an old house to convert for use as a recording studio. I am going to be asking for a lot of advice in the coming weeks and months on how to best utilize the space for my studio. I will have some specs in the future as to how many rooms it has and the measurement of...

room mic vs. polar pattern for ambient sound

Is there any advantages or disadvantages to using a room mic as opposed to a polar pattern such as figure 8 or omni to capture the ambience of a room? Zeke P.S. All I have right now is a C3000B, a MXL V67 and a sm57. I hope to find a good price on a MXL 603 today. I'm headed to Dallas today...

    Compression/Limiting

I've read a lot of the posts on Comp./Lim. and I think I have a grasp of the benefits it provides. I've also read the thread on the importance of trackin as hot a signal as possible. This maybe a dumb question, but here goes anyway. I'm trying to understand the benefit of adding compression...

    SM57 spanked C3000B on vocal

I got my VS-2480 and I'm zealously trying to learn how to use the machine. It was an ordeal just learning how to overdub with it. I spent the first day working on getting the tracking down and was recording part of a song. The two stanzas I was singing sounded like warmed over crap. I did...

    Roland VS-2480 vs. Akai DPS24

I have a Roland VS-2480 on order. I was notified today that they are shipping from Roland today and will be in the store on Wednesday. The Akai is supposed to be delivered sometime in August. Which possibly means September or after. I am starting to waffle a little on my decision to go with...

    studio amps & monitors

I'm currently assembling my home studio. Right now I have a Roland VS-2480 on order. I have a AMG C3000B, and a SM-57. I have a set of studio monitoring phones that I know will be nominally useful. My two main decisions that I have to make now is monitoring and preamping. On the preamp issue I...

    wheeeeeeew!!!

Bruce, Again, thanks for the link. That is incredible. It staggers the imagination that someone would first, be able to dream all that up, and secondly put it into force in the real world with electronic equipment. I'll have new respect now any time I listen to a compact disk, or any digital...

why record in 24 bit at 96khz if you can't burn at that rate?

If you can only burn your CD's in 16 bit at 44.1khz why not just record in that format? Is there any advantage to recording in 24 bit at 96khz and then converting it down when you get ready to burn to cd? Thanks Zeke

Shock mounts and the AKG C3000B

I am a newbie. I don't even have my machine yet. I ordered a VS-2480. As soon as it hit's the store shelves they are supposed to ship me one. I also got a really good deal on a AKG C3000B and a Shure SM-57. I've read nothing but good things about the Shure, but I would like some input on the...
