    Rack Mount vs. Stomp Box

I am thinking of buying a wireless guitar rig. I've seen rack mounted units like the Line6 G90, stomp boxes like the Line6 G50 and then units like the Shure's that are neither stomp nor rack mount. Sound, features, etc. aside...what are your opinions on stomp vs. rack vs. shelf units?

Sonar 8.5.3 Slow File Load and Save?

Hey all...last night, I upgraded from 8.5.2 to 8.5.3 (Producer). Now when I open a file, or save a file, the file status bar comes up at the bottom of the screen...and no kidding each file operation lasts about 5 minutes. This is killing me. Anyone else seeing this with 8.5.3? Is it possible to...

    Megaphone Effect

Hey all...I am working in Sonar 8.5. I am looking for a nice megaphone effect for a vocal track. Does anyone know of a good, quick and dirty VST (preferably free of course), or better yet, a recommendation on EQ, Compression, et. al that could accomplish this without any fancy tools? JD.

Good Machine, Relatively Cheap at Buy.com

I bought a refurb from Buy.com last year, here is another, http://www.buy.com/prod/dell-inspiron-570-desktop--amd-athlon-ii-x4-quad-core-630-2-8ghz-6gb/q/loc/101/219026924.html. Great power. Great price. Add a second drive, and this is a perfect DAW.

For BSG Fans - Shoebucket's Time to Make a Choice

Hey Battlestar Galactica fans...here is a bit of tribute music to Baltar. Yes, I am a geek. This tune is called Time to Make a Choice by Shoebucket. This is a rough mix, I am working on, and would love to hear feedback. http://shoebucketband.com/media/mp3/Shoebucket_Demo_Time_To_Make_A_Choice.mp3

    Shure SM27 vs. KSM27

Has anyone compared the new SM27 with the discontinued KSM27? I love the KSM, but can't find one anywhere, so I am considering the SM, which according to Shure is the replacement.

    Monitors on the Cheap

OK, if you are a purest...stop reading now. If you have a limited budget like me, keep reading. A friend of mine told me about the Dayton B652 shelf speakers. Apparently some people on some home audio forums were raving about the sound of these things compared to their cost. I found them on...

    Sum Greater Than the Parts?

I have a conflict...I am working on completing a rough mix of a track before I send it to the guy that is doing the final mix. I've noticed a few things that stand out to me, so I have begun solo'ing various tracks, and I've noticed the vocals tracks are a wreck. Some clipping from the pre-amps...

    Converting Acoustic Drums to E-Drums

I recently fell into a free kit, and have it sitting in my studio/home office. They don't sound great, but they look nice. I was thinking, I could put some sort of practice heads on them, so they are quiet, and then add triggers and store MIDI data to be used to trigger samples in Sonar. Has...

    Shoebucket - Our Own Space

Hey everyone, here's one for critique. This is not the final mix, we are aware of a few things we need to tweak, and a few things we want to tweak, but I thought this was close enough to post for feedback. I am very happy with the overall sound quality for nearly the first time in my...

Corner Bass Traps Must Be 4'' Thick

    Keyboards in Studios

I am in the process of making my home "studio" more studio-ish so I've been paying a lot of attention to threads on this topic. One thing that I have noticed is that everyone seems to have a keyboard on their desk. I don't meant QERTY, I mean like MIDI/Piano. I am guessing everyone is not...

To Click or Not to Click

Simple question with a complex answer...do you guys always use a click? Setup tempo maps...or just go at it live?

    Shoebucket - Five of Twelve

A few weeks back, the drummer and I were in the rehearsal studio. After a few hours of practice, we were just sitting there with the lights low, talking about the days work. We started diddling around with some chords, and forgot that we had the DAW in record mode. I was super happy to hear...

Do you need a drum module with Triggers?

I have a Q about triggers. Do you need to have some sort of drum module to use triggers? I thought I read somewhere that they could be used like microphones, and then then transients can be converted into midi data. Am I dreaming or is this possible?

Ready to go back to Tape

Oy. I am really getting frustrated. I have Sonar 8.5 Producer running on a Quad Core machine with 7GB of RAM. I am connected to a MOTU 8pre. To say I am getting drop outs, is an understatement. I am new to the 64bit world, so maybe this is a configuration issue, but I can't get anything done...
