    Need a recommendation compressor/preamp

Exactly c7sus, when i was looking i almost went for the dbx386 b/c everyone said how clear it was and that sounded good but then when people were saying that the meek stuf colors the sound in a good way i said hmmmmmmm we're doing mostly rock/pop type stuff here and duh color IS good on...

POD vs POD Pro... Is there a recording difference?

Thanks Dark, I tried running through a preamp before the pod and it sounded a whole lot better. I f this is what you mean it worked. And would confirm what i stumbled upon. If not i'm not sure what a direct box that you mentioned would be. Anyway thanks for responding!!!

    problems recording vocals

Ditto to meshuggenah. Be careful not to use the limiter function of the machine b/c that is not what you want. But if you are using the compresssor and it "squashes" it too much you can let up on the attack lower the threshold and put the release around mid. But it would be a good idea to read...

    BR 8 Helpful hint

Sorry, I prefer not to get into that stuff. I just use it like any old recorder only its digital. Why not try a new thread to see if anyone else knows. Good Luck!

    problems recording vocals

depending on the budget you should really think about a quality pre-amp...and compressor which is a vast improvement over any of the built in shit. A joemeek type dealybob has both and you could do alot worse with some of the crap out there.

Impossible Question But try to answer!

thank you recording brethren. I sort of already came to these conclusions but i thought it would be an interesting situation to throw out there for pondering. And BTW the octava sounds much much better than sm58

    Joe Meek Noise!!!!

Says who Buck?! Why are you always putting the joemeek down and hawking the mindprint....hmmmm I wonder if monetary concerns are involved. To digidom: Stick with the joemeek their stuff sounds great. It may be what the earlier post said or a defective unit or whatever but if you get it working...

Impossible Question But try to answer!

I recently purchased an octava mk 319 based on the price...$200 including shockmount. Now many posts here insist that quality control on these handmade russian mics are suspect (you know vodka induced concentration failure). How does one tell if he got a lemon if he was stupid enough to buy...

Best mic pre amp b/w $400-500?

So its the compressor that makes the sound fatter in the meek? I'm a little confused. Doesn't the compressor control the volume?? How would it "warm" the sound. I was under the impression that it was the pre-amp that fattened the sound. Anyway the joe meek relly makes the vocals AND the guitars...

    BEST TIPS!!

    1. Buy cd's at a wholesale place like costco...$14.99 after rebates this week. And use them silly. Burn the song as many times as it takes to get the right mix. I eve burn a copy when only the guitars are laid down just to make sure it sounds right on many different stereos ie. boom box, car...

Best mic pre amp b/w $400-500?

Thanks for the replies. I decided to go with a joe meek since everyone raves about them. And yes it had to be a tube. Mainly because it livens up the sound. So far ive hummed a few bars with the new pre and it is far better than the 286 dbx...way way better. a whole new dimension...
