Use of "Very Pitch" on VS-880EX

I screwed up Of course you are right. As I was trying to show it was a half step lower than A, I actually wanted to say A Flat, but I didn't have the flat symbol on my keyboard, so I meant to say G#, but for some unknown reason said B# instead. I guess I need to do a better job of proof...

    Alternative Storage?

For extra storage, try the ORB 2.2 Gig drive See my post on the use of the ORB 2.2 external SCSI drive. It will solve all of you problems for about $300 bucks. $170 for the ORB (comes with one 2.2 Gig disk), 2 extra 2.2 Gig disks for another $60, and a few more bucks for a 25 pin SCSI 1 -> 50...

Use of "Very Pitch" on VS-880EX

I briefly mentioned my use of the “Very Pitch” function in an earlier post, but thought the following additional info might be of use to someone. I record at the standard sample rate of 44.10, but often use the “Very Pitch” (speed control) to slow down the playback ½ step (41.46) while I lay...

    VS880EX compression/limiting

880EX 2.05 Has Mastering Tools Yes, 2.05 has the mastering tools. Anthing 2.0 and higher has the Mastering tools and Speaker Modeling. The manual furnished with the (my) 880EX mentioned nothing about it, even though the machine had 2.01 on it. I didn't even know about the functions until I...

    VS880EX compression/limiting

Accessing Mixdown functions I never can quite remember how to access the function without doing it. Download the file from Roland's web page that gives the instructions for 2.0. It lists the different functions available for mixdown and speaker modeling. They are all accessed as effects...

    VS880 to CD

You are screwed No, it won't work without the upgrade. I went throught the same crap. I spent over $70 bucks on a midi interface - I forget the name, but I got it from Guitar Center. The upgrade is on Roland's web page. You have to download a program that allows the interface to work, plus...

Using ORB2.2 Gig drive with VS880-EX

ORB with 1680 I'm glad my info was useful. As far as I know the ORB will work on all VS machines, the 1680 included. It wouldn't hurt to check with Roland to make sure. They highly recommended the ORB for my VS-880EX and I bet the same is true for the 1680.

    VStudio CD Burner

I agree The Tascam is indeed a good choice. 8th Street music (8thstreet.com) has it on sale for about $400, which is absolutly amazing. The only reason I got the Marantz instead was the dual tray function, which was worth the extra bucks to me. I wanted to be able to dub CDs. Plus, I have...

    VStudio CD Burner

A product more user friendly than theRoland CD burner Roland says the only SCSI burner that will work with a VS-880EX is their VS-CDRII. I ordered one and sent it back with out even hooking it up. It wouldn't do anything I wanted it to do and was harder to figure out than Chinese 'rithmetic...

    Compatible media...

Media for VS880-EX As stated in my post on the same subject, the ORB external 2.2 Gig drive will give you unlimited drive space. The 2.2 Gig disks only cost $30 each. The ORB functions exactly like the internal drive and you can copy Playable songs back and forth between the two. Read my...

    VS880EX compression/limiting

reply to fanbagglia Hello again. I mentioned in another post how I use compression. I always use the onboard Dual Compressor for drums, bass and vocals. There is nothing to set, as it is an "Insert." If you are recording two tracks of drums or vocal, use the "Insert L" and "Insert R"...

    VS880 to CD

Reply to fanbagglia The ORB works just like the internal hard drive. The songs (or contents of an entire drive (partition) are copied in a "Playable" condition to one of the ORBs drives (partitions), so you can work on the song on the ORB the same as if it were on the internal hard drive. You...

    880EX recording tips anyone?

A few of my experiences I have been using my VS-880-EX for about a year. The learning curve was a real bitch. I had been using a four track Tascam for fifteen years and still it took me a week just to record my first two tracks on the VS880-EX. The first couple of months were like pulling...

    VS880 to CD

Reply to VS-CDRII question I ordered a VS-CDRII but sent it back before even hooking it up. One reason was, it was missing the SCSI cable - had an extra power cord instead - go figure. However, the main reason I returned it, I discovered the back up capibility is limited to unplayable...

Using ORB2.2 Gig drive with VS880-EX

A few weeks ago someone recommended using the Castlewood ORB 2.2 Gig external SCSI drive with the Roland VS880-EX for song backup / additional working space. After taking this excellent advice I decided to pass along a few tips on using the ORB drive in the hope of helping others avoid the...

    VS-880-EX mixdown to CD

JC and Bruce Thanks, JC. That's exactly what I want to do. The CD recorder is the way to go. Bruce, You now see my problem. The Roland accessory burner would cause me to bounce tracks by shuffling back and forth between vertual tracks in at least two additional re-mixing steps...

    VS-880-EX mixdown to CD

Reply to Bruce and Wish 14 Wish 14, Thanks, you cleared up the question about going directly to a CD burner from the VS-880-EX. Looks like I can do what I want to do. Bruce, The VS-CDR-II is an outboard accessory for the VS-880-EX. It will burn a CD that can be played on a standerd CD...

    VS-880-EX mixdown to CD

Thanks J. C. That's good info. If I do use a Zip drive for back up I'll go with a 250. If you are only getting one or two songs per disk, I guess you are using a 100. Most of my songs are 70 - 85 MB, so I guess a 250 disk would hold two or three. At that rate, I already need 10 or 11 disks...

    VS-880-EX mixdown to CD

Thanks for the input. What I am trying to do is mix down the 8 tracks from the VS-880-EX to CD, rather than analog tape (as I have already done). I don't know if I can go directly from the VS-880-EX to a CD recorder like the Tascam CDRW700 or Marantz DR-6050, or if I have to put the mix on DAT...

    VS-880-EX mixdown to CD

I have been using a VS-880-EX for about a year and have 32 songs recorded on it. So far I have only "Mastered" them to analog tape, but want to put them on CD. I also badly need to back up my data and remove some of it, as the hard drive is almost full now. I am debating whether to buy a...
