Glad you have found something that works for you. What is your application for the SM7? Vocal mic?

SM57 vs. Audix i5 on distorted guitar (samples)

Thanks for posting the clips. Always nice to hear real differences, rather than just talk about differences. This ain't my style, but it sounds pretty darn good. And posting clips like this makes this forum very useful.

    Complement to V67g?

Wow, the 4050 looks very nice. It's a bit out of my price range, though. I guess I should have mentioned that I can't spend more than $300.

    Complement to V67g?

I'm looking for a second mic to complement my MXL v67g. The v67 actually does a pretty decent job on my voice--the mid-range "mushiness" gives me a little bit of warmth and adds some depth to the thinner qualities of my voice. Also, on the plus side, I find the high end to be a little rounded...

    V63M or V67G?

Thanks for the responses and tips. I'd really like to give one of those ADK mics a test-drive, but I don't see that they have any dealers? They only sell online? I used an AT 3035 for a while (my buddy loaned it to me), and I found it to be an improvement on the V67 in a lot of ways for my...

    V63M or V67G?

I have a v67g that I like for certain vocal applications, but the weird mids do bother me in some mixes. And the hi-end can get a little weird, too. It's not brittle like other cheap condensers but it doesn't "open up" to my ear. With my songs I do a lot of vocals that start in the low to mids...

    MXL V67G (or V63M) or AT 3035?

OK, Mbox2 for preamps. To answer your original question: IMHO, the 3035 is the more versatile mic. The V67G sounds very good on some things--mainly on vocals. The 3035 is a tad more transparent and covers a bit more ground. I also go to the 3035 for vocals sometimes because it just cuts through...

    MXL V67G (or V63M) or AT 3035?

I have used both extensively. What's the rest of your system (preamps, etc.) look like?

    My SM57 into a Firebox

I agree that it sometimes sucks that you can't be running an amp at bedroom levels to record with the Firebox. But I can tell you that it's not the SM57 that's the problem. All of my mics exhibit the same issue with the Firebox.

    My SM57 into a Firebox

I have a Firebox and just bought a 57. If I don't use the +12 button, it's way too soft. But, once I hit that button, it gives me a good signal. Amp has to be turned up, too, though. But, that's no problem because that's when it starts to sound good!
