Hey all,
I was hoping to get some feedback on a mix. The artist is Keely Blaze, acoustic rock/folk. The mix includes, drums, bass, acoustic guitar, lead guitar, lead vox, and 2 background vox. Recorded in Pro Tools LE 7.1. Mixed and mastered by myself.
Let me know what should be changed...
I'm pretty happy with the mix, but not thrilled. Here are the details:
DAE: Pro Tools LE 7.1
Guitar: Gibson Les Paul Studio through Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier 100w head and Marshall 1960A Cab (I think), mic'd with an SM57 on the cone.
Bass: I don't own a bass, so I used my guitar and recorded...
Hey all,
I'm looking to pick up a new vocal mic. Right now I use an AT-4040. It's a good mic, but it's a bit boring and i'm ready to upgrade. I don't have a huge budget, max out at $400. I will probably buy the mic off craigs list or ebay so that allows for a bigger price range.
I'm not...
just to show the sound you can get out of digital instruments...
i was bored, so i wrote a riff. its 30 seconds long, not meant to be a song, but im sure it will at some point.
guitars are amplitube
drums are reason
bass is the same guitar using soundshifter to drop it an octave
if i can get...
so ive been recording this hardcore band. the drums sound fine. not too happy with them yet, but i can deal for now.
so they start to do guitars. marshall jcm2000 head and cab. and he's pumping into an ibanez distortion footpedal. he insists on keeping his 150watt head cranked up super loud...
I am going to start recording live ensembles regularly, mostly high school bands, theater performances, etc. I have searched the forums, learned a lot, but haven't found exactly what I've been looking for. To get things started, here is my current mic list:
(1) Audio Technica AT-4040
(1) AKG...
So I've been offered a good sized project, but its hip hop which i have very little experience in recording. He will be providing beats, so all i will be doing is the vocals. Are there certain techniques/mic types that work best for these? Here is the extent of my knowledge:
Doubling the vocals...
ok, so i've been doing recording for awhile, but not all that seriously. ive learned what i could, and i consider myself knowledgeable enough to create a decent sounding final mix.
BUT i know there is always room for improvement, and i feel like my mixes and overall knowledge needs to grow...
Alright, so i do consider myself decently well acquainted with recording and the proper techniques, but my skill to get a good guitar sound recorded is terrible.
I have a mesa boogie dual rectifier head and mesa 4x12 cab, and i play a gibson les paul, so my guitar equipment is not the problem...
i just want to say thank you to everyone for making this such an amazing place to discuss things, look for advice, new equipment, etc. i built my microphone collection based on suggestions from this forum and i haven't been steered wrong since!
kudos to everyone!
ok so i put together a bantam patch bay and 1RU mic panel on my rack, and also added a samson s-phone headphone amp and normaled all inputs and outputs through the bantam patch bay.
now when i playback anything in pro tools, after i pause it or stop it, i get a REALLY LOUD SCREECH! almost...
anyone who makes their own cables out there? if so have you used teflon tubing to cover the ground/shield before you solder? if so, what size are you supposed to get, i'm having trouble figuring that out.
and what's the deal on heatshrink around the tips? how does that work and what size also...
ok so i got an adc 96 point tt bantam patchbay off ebay. accidently i purchased it half-normalled, so i had to resolder the entire thing to make it normalled. fine, did all that.
now i'm putting all the wires in the back, but when i use my continuity tester, the two ground points dont have any...
