    soundtrac mixer help........

Yeah, I've got a Topaz 8 and I love it. What impresses me the most is the eq-section. Smooth and great sounding.

    60's sound...

Yeah, I'm a bit puzzled by why they panned stuff like that? Was it because they had to or because they wanted to? All the instruments and vocals are in mono and panned hard right or left. If you listen to "Don't worry baby" with the Beach Boys it's a perfect example. giggsy

I can't solve my ADAT sync problems!

Thanks for you replys. I'm stuck here... I've tried to format tapes with just the power cord connected to the ADAT and I still get these bleeding error messages as soon as I run the tape. I can't believe my newly maintained ADAT's can be faulty all three? The ADAT/EDIT transfer is somewhat...

    60's sound...

First of all, this thread is truly great! Everyone's been very helpful and right to the point. This is Homerecording.com at its best! lazy72, how about trying to mix the stuff in mono? It worked for Brian Wilson :) I do think drums sound the best in mono so even if you wanna have a stereo...

I can't solve my ADAT sync problems!

Ok, I'm in a setup that I took over from someone. There's a 02R, a BRC, 3(three) XT's and a PC. Right now the pulse is coming from the 02R via the Word Clock to the BRC. My first problem is that I can't get the tapes in my ADAT's to run without this damn interpolation indicator flashing...

What do you think of this one?

Yes, I like this. The drums sound great and so does the vocals. Do you remember what settings you used on the RCL to "compress the piss out of them"? Also, the kickdrum sounds a little like it's trigged, is it? giggsy

    Ilya re-mix...

Really good, man. Just wanna add that the vocals seem a little harsh to me. Did you de-ess them at all? giggsy

My latest mix, and first song on this BBS!

DarthFaders, I believe SLuiCe was only giving you a compliment in his own way. The recording is great and so is the song. What's the band called? How did you record the vocals? They are so rich. I don't like the idea of a guitar solo, but some added guitar lines like sunpowder suggested...

I will finally share some secrets about mixing!

guhlenn, "and obviously your new" don't think you checked when I registered... I'm nowhere near a newbie either here or as a sound engineer, I just like it better when people try to keep to the subject of a thread then when they chat around. To me that's contributing. It's hard enough to dig...

    Any vinyl lovers out there?

Wil Davis, that's so cool, keeping a logbook of sides played! I keep track of where I bought my vinyls, how much they costed and I have 'em all in Access so I can search for titles, year etc. Also, and this is important, I always keep the A-side face up in the sleeve and I even have the inner...

I will finally share some secrets about mixing!

Zip, thanks for the links. I'll check it tonite! P Hallin, var det nåt fel med artikeln eller? (excuse my language):) guhlenn, I don't know you but you have an amazing ability of not contributing to this thread. If people would keep to the subject or at least try to bring the discussion...

    Any vinyl lovers out there?

It's cool when I get kids, 17-18, coming to my studio telling me they've found their parents vinyls in the garage and they love 'em. Sometimes, when they can't play them at home 'cause their parents got rid of the turntable years ago, I let them listen to the albums in the studio. It's kinda...

I will finally share some secrets about mixing!

Zip "Also don't forget to dither at the very end of the signal chain... " How do you dither in Wavelab 3.0? I've used Wavelab for a while and I'm familiar with the concept of dithering but I'm just not sure how to use it. I know you do it from the master section but what type, dither bits and...

I will finally share some secrets about mixing!

I don't think Fenix was trying to put Ed down here, although I'll let him speak for himself in that issue. I'm just glad he provided a new angle/tip on how to compress vocals. I, for one, was previously unaware of the method he was talking about. I HIGHLY appreciate Ed's efforts with this...

    Any vinyl lovers out there?

Yes, yes, yes! Finally a very important issue has been addressed. Thanks, Lt. Bob. I've always been heavily into vinyls and to this day I only buy CD's to get bonustracks or other songs not released on vinyl. I just like the format and the sound is more pleasing to my ears. I own a Technics...

New pop song - please critique

Yeah, the intro and esp the first verse reminded me of her... I really like the lisp! Make sure your sister-in-law visits more often!!! Make the bass a little louder but not much. The bass sound is a tad muddy but pretty rich, I think. Never tried the V-amp. It's been praised by some friends...

New pop song - please critique

Congrats, leahkim. Great song! Make's me think of Tracy Chapman for some reason. I really like the flow in it. Only time it sort of stops is when the solo comes in. Maybe you should leave the piano in there during the solo or get a guitar sound that goes more hand in hand with the lead...

where are the masters of mastering?

Nice song, man! Can't wait to hear the rest. Here's some highly personal thoughts: The bass drum kind of masks out the bass guitar. I feel it has a little too much punch in comparison to the rest of the song. It sounds ok but it takes over the whole mix a bit. The overheads sound like they're...

Gordon Raphael "the Strokes" 's producer in SOS

Well, without putting any values into it I have to say that the Stooges *Funhouse* album is one of the best sounding albums I've ever owned. Ashetons guitarplaying is fantastic! Btw, he recorded all the solos before he layed down the rythm guitars. Pretty cool. The Strokes album has got an ok...
