dude, i don't know how you even used the mxl 990 without a phantom power supply. anyways, i suggest the studio projects c1 and the rane ms1b, which is a very clean pre. in terms of gettign your vocals to fit into the mix, i don't think it's the 990's fault, experiment with compression and reverb.

hey, so I just finished this mix tonight.. incorporated some piano sound in it (ala my last thread). could you guys help critique it? right now i think there are problems with the piano again, sounding a bit thin, too little low end, and maybe the vocals sitting on top of the mix too much...

i gave up on recording my piano.. i figured that my mics and preamps and room weren't good neouhg to actually get a good sound. Instead i resorted to piano samples.. Galaxy Steinway and also some Akai samples I came across. Maybe steinways/those samples aren't intended for rock music...
