The BBE actually **cks the phase of any signal you send to it. It also features a glorified EQ section that you can replicate using ANY EQ. But the phase thing, you can't replicate. Used WITH CAUTION (process les than 25% and other knob at minimum), it can be useful on individual tracks I agree...

If it's $1500 for both, then go active. Maybe Mackie HR824 or Dynaudio BM15 ? If it's $1500 each, then by all means, get good B&W speakers with a nice amp and be done with it :)

I don't agree with that statement. A speaker driver is a speaker driver..doesn't matter if it's part of a "monitor" speaker or an "audiophile" speaker. The driver is rated both peak and continuous power. If you don't exceed these, there will be no problem. BTW, B&W is great speaker company and...

There is a contradiction in your post. Why do you say: "the important part is learning the monitors" And then "please don't mix using headphones" ? You can learn headphones as well as monitors. Indeed, $500 headphones with a nice headphone amp is gonna get you a lot more accuracy and flatness...

A UPS is a different beast than a power conditionner or filter :rolleyes: I recommend the use of a UPS on the computer, but not the other gear, as those UPS sometimes do nasty things to the AC they put out, even if it's not in UPS mode. So yeah, I pretty much agree with that dude :)

All those power conditionning and filtering units are mostly jokes. A well-designed power supply will take care of regulating everything. SO if your equipement has nice power supplies, there are no reasons to bother with that. A good surge protector is all you really need.

PODs are quite good, but I find myself boosting the 6k and up region by about 10 dB when using my POD 2.0. Otherwise, it lacks the "shimmer" of a miked amp.

Uh ? I use headphones and can't hear the guitars on each side, maybe the guitars you put closer to center overpowers the hard panned guitars? If that's the case, I think you should hard pan everything, sounds was better to me.

OMG! The mix sounds very "mono". Maybe pan guitars and drums? I also think you went overboard with the level. Nobody here would think they'd ever hear me say this, but it's much too limited and compressed :eek: I am know as a limiting and loudness defender, but too much is too much!

Read my post carefully. I said I OCCASIONNALLY mix at high levels. Most of the time, I mix at about 85-90 dB. Having lots of headroom is like having some horsepower to spare in your car. You don't always need it, but it's nice to have it there when you do.

This is why it's less expensive to buy a nice power amp and nice passive monitors. Plus...you get what you pay for and this applies to monitors too.

I need LOUD shit, this is why I never use nearfields. I need at least a 12'' woofer in order to get the response I need. About 115 to 120 dB is a good level for me. Those small nearfields top at about 100 or 110dB. I can go higher than that with my headphones LOL! Of course, I don't mix at high...

Sure, powered monitors have some advantages. But greatest quality is not one of those... ;)

Poor design. Indeed, many of these "built-in amps" are poorly designed by people who have no clue whatsoever to what they are doing.

The ART will sure get the job done, but since you plan on having something that will last you a long time, I tend to recommend Haflers and patience. With the ACTIVE monitors out there, the amp business has pretty much been down, which is another reason for me to hate active monitors.

Fact is that MOST, if not ALL, active monitors are underpowered, this is why they need to have a clip indicator....lol! What happens when you want "louder" than what's in the box? Well you are stuck with it, cause the limiter kicks in, which sucks. arnghh I hate active monitors! :mad:

Forget the ART and all those Samson-type amps. A Hafler is what you need at that price point.
