    MBOX on Intel Mac

I have an Intel Macbook and an old Mbox (pro tools 6.x). I don't want to use pro tools on my new macbook but i do want to use the mbox. Do I have to buy the pro tools 7 update to be able to get mbox core audio to work on the macbook?

    Multitracking a live band

my interface also has 8 outputs, so im' thinking what i might do is run their mics into the MOTU so i can record, and since i have 8 busses, i can run each mic out of its own bus to the mixer for the live mix.

    Multitracking a live band

i hear ya, but i'm recording a live performance so the soundboard gets priority over me, and to be honest if i was in a band i would want someone at a mixer controlling levels as opposed to from a computer.

    Multitracking a live band

I'm going to be recording a band live in a few weeks. I have a Macbook, Logic Pro, and a MOTU 8 channel interface. Their vocals and guitars will be coming out of a PA but their drums won't be miked. I want to multitrack everything so I can mix it later. Obviously I'll record the drum...

    bouncing/exporting individual tracks

I'm working in Cubase and I'm recording and editing a project for someone but they are having another person mix the project, so the mixing dude needs all the tracks. Is there a way for me to output each of the tracks individually or do I have to go through and manually solo and bounce each...

    ibook g4

my understanding was that running cubase with bootcamp until the UB cubase comes out would be a very slow situation... though i'm starting to think it would be worth it to get a macbook and pay 75 bucks to upgrade my protools and do this gig in PT...

    ibook g4

I know these machines are no longer current, but I'm in need of a mobile recording setup ASAP and from what I'm told cubase won't be ready for the new macs until the end of the year (before anyone suggests it i'm not buying a new laptop and paying full price for new software). Anyway i was...

I'm in dire straits (ie I want my cubase...to work)

points for clever title? Anyway I'm having a major problem and I'm hoping some of you have experienced it and have figured out a way to deal with it. I have this problem where a session file opens one day and the next it doesn't work. The place it gets stuck is when the dialog window showing...

    a great trick for mastering

True - this is basically MS except there's an extra step involved. With MS you just have to decode the signal into a stereo image. Here you're starting with a stereo image and encoding into the equivalent of an MS signal (a mid and a side) and then decoding back into a stereo image you control.

    a great trick for mastering

pro tools really does have great software. i agree though that their whole hardware policy is a slightly fascist, especially given their hardware...though as a piece of software it has its benefits. it really does. looks like this plug in does the gain control for the mid and the sides but...

    a great trick for mastering

First off, thanks to those who helped me figure out that group channels in cubase can function like busses in Pro Tools. The reason I was asking was so I could figure out how to do an easy way this cool little trick from Pro Tools (and analog boards) in Cubase. In the mastering stage, this...

    Noise Reduction

Think of a gate as a door that your signal has to have a certain strength to open - but once its open it all is let through. It will be used sometimes on like a guitar amp so that all the hiss from the speaker is below the gates threshold so its not heard and the gate opens when any notes are...

    internal busses

Is there a way to set up internal busses in cubase? For example in pro tools you can send audio to a bus and not just an effect. In pro tools, one could set up his own MS decoder. Can we do that in cubase?

    recording harmony/a cappella

the way this (and many other) groups want their CD's recorded are individual parts tracked. in fact the most singers we have at the same time recording is 4. i guess my question applies both to this and "regular" settings (lead vocal and harmony) recorded separately. there's got to be a way...

    recording harmony/a cappella

Something weird is happening I'm recording a CD for a female a cappella group and something weird is happening. when 2 girls sing the same harmony together, i'm getting a weird sort of ring modulation sound. this only happens when both parts are panned center. it doesn't happen when they are...

    chorus during pop songs

Here's something I've been thinking about. Have you noticed how in lots of pop recordings it sounds like one track of the singer panned center during the verses and then during the chorus, the sound expands? The sound will be doubled or more and spread over the stereo image. Do people do this...

    Saffire Pro

Has anyone used the new saffire from focusrite (firewire/8 preamps)? I'm wondering how this will compare to the firepod. I have never owned a piece of presonus gear that i've liked (except the HP4 headphone amp which one day mysteriously started burning up and giving off smoke)...So - saffire...

    new to mixing clinic.

thanks for all the replies. i did this recording, not surprisingly, with limited budget and in my bedroom. for those that have been waiting for a magical tip about drum recordings, it would be this. buy BFD, record to a click track and figure out how to sequence believable drum parts with...

    new to mixing clinic.

http://homepages.nyu.edu/~jms782/The%20City.mp3 i've been on the board for a while and have been doing home recording for a bit longer, though i've never posted in the mixing clinic, so i'm interested in getting some feedback from strangers about my work. thanks all.
