What do you do when you have writers-block?

These may sound corny, but these help me. They mostly help with music as I've only written lyrics to 2 songs: http://music.hyperreal.org/artists/brian_eno/oblique/oblique.html http://www.rtqe.net/ObliqueStrategies/

    Wave Edit in Sonar

Another option would be to add Audition to the tools menu.... you could use this program: http://mandala-in-mind.de/ It is a safe website, many people have used it for a long time. After you add audition, you can open the wav there and destructively edit it (use the proprietary effects etc.)...

    "Poor Man's Copyright"....Britney vs. Wallace

Aaron (and others), these posts certainly pop up from time to time. My own belief is the PMC ("poor man's copyright") and variants thereof (registered mail, notarized etc.) aren't worth anything. Some time ago, I spent a few hours surfing the web (while one of these discussions raged.) The...

    Taxi "Angela's Theme"

Slightly OT, but I saw Bob James at the Mt Hood Festival of Jazz a few years ago. Definitely one of the better acts there. He saved "Angela's Theme" for last. Crowd went wild! Not free or even cheap  , but Lounge Lizard from AAS does some nice e-pianos. Take Care

    Sonar with xp or win98

I have a Roland XV5080 and that works fine with XP. What exactly is your problem with the module.... what midi interface are you using? What exactly doesn't have drivers? In regards to your first question, I am sure there are lots of technical answers to 98 vs xp, I switched to xp (from 2000)...

    Midi WTF?

There are several advantages to midi: 1) very very low CPU usage.... you can run dozens of midi tracks (to hardware gear) on even the slowest computer. 2) universality (as mentioned), you don't like the piano sound your Korg is playing.... send the data to your Roland.... plays it there just...

    Mastering plug-ins

Maximising soft synth usage in Sonar

If you are using a newer version of Sonar (can't remember if this was in 3 or not) you can use freeze track.... if you have the quick freeze option enable, it only takes a couple of seconds.... this frees up a lot of processing power and you can unfreeze the track easily. Take Care

    Mastering plug-ins

They aren't free, but a lot cheaper than waves look into stuff by: Voxengo Kjaerhus (his gold stuff, but the freebies are okay too) Elemental Audio There is other stuff too, but I use some of the stuff listed above. Take Care

free/good/easy synth software "emulator" that can be used with cool edit pro 2.1.tanx

I am reasonably certain that you cannot add soft-synths to CEP or the newer Audition (which replaced CEP) CEP is primarily audio software which has a built in two track editor and a multi-track. You can use effects plug ins, (three types, native Adobe, DX or VST) but not synths. Numerous...

    Buying a Piano

A couple of thoughts... I have a six foot one Kawai that was made sometime after about 1987. IMHO, older doesn't mean better. Although technically the single-large size spruce boards were easier to find in the "old" days, my understanding is they have done pretty amazing work learning to glue...

    Help with keyboard voice

I have as QS8.... there is no sequencer in the QS series. There are hardware sequencers and some synths have built in sequencers, but the most powerful ones run through a computer. Most people who use keyboards use sequencers (actually sequencter features in their DAWs) as part of the...

    Sonor 2.0 Xl Stops Responding

I have something similar. I can be recording or playing back..... usually less than 8-10 active tracks. I freeze my synths to free up resources, plus sometimes it just happens with 2-3 tracks. Just stops..... no idea why. I have tried shutting down everything that may be running in the...

    Help with keyboard voice

Some sequencers also have arpeggiators built into them.... Sonar does for example. You hold down a chord and tell Sonar what kind of arpeggio to play, octave range etc. So, also check you sequencer to see if one is there. Take Care

    Alesis QS .1 series

I don't own the the other keyboardsmentioned (I do have a Yamaha SY77 and some rack mounted boxes thought), so my comment was just about the QS8. As I play accoustic piano for my main instrument, I much prefer 88 weighted keys..... if you are just entering midi data and don't particularly play...

    Alesis QS .1 series

I have a QS8 and have for years. It is a fine feeling 88 key weighted action keyboard that does a great job in the studio as a midi controller (a couple of pedals and 4 slides, plus the two wheels.) In the olden times, when my studio was hardware, the sounds were okay... kinda "bread and...

    Classical Music recommendations

Some great suggestions listed. I always loved Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition." Also, to go along with Rite of Spring... how about "Night on Bald Mountain." I am a fan of Debussay as well..... in addition to the titles mentioned, I like his preludes..... Sunken Cathedral, Girl with...
