    Superstar

The Superstars are, indeed, of all birch construction--the top of line in their day . I bought a set of them in black lacquer for $500, 'bout 6 years ago-- the previous owner was *upgrading* to the current Starclassics For $500, I got 10"12"and 13" TT, 16"and 18" FT, and 22" BD Best money...

    Quantegy News WTVM

I breathe an even bigger sigh of relief !!! I finally get my foot in the analog door in Aug of last year buying an Otari 1" 8trk and after getting the machine serviced and getting it shipped sometime in Dec the big Quantegy shutdown/scare     Believe me when I say I was...

    Otari MX-70 8 track

I paid $1800 for mine, before out-of-state shipping charges. Luckily the seller picked up 2/3 of the shipping as he had connections with a local shipping Co. If your prospect is local to you you're definitely ahead of the game a little. Of course... try to pay as little as possible ;)

Thinking of getting an Otari MTR-90... anyone have experience with this deck?

I can't speak directly to the MTR-90s but do know that they are widely regarded machines. I just bought an MX70 1" 8-track from a guy that was also selling an MTR-90 MK III, to offset the cost of a Studer A827. That MTR-90 that he was auctioning was in pristine shape . I think that I've read...

    MC012 vs. SM81

Whew ! Thanks for the heads up .. I could have very easily bought one yesterday. There was a guitar at GC that I walked away from during their Labor Day sale, which was a colossal joke, BTW .. I went back to give it a second look today and it was gone; no biggie, there But since I'd driven...

Taking the BIG leap into 1" analog

There not terribly hard to find, but there are certain brands that, by now you might steer clear of . The MCIs can be a good bet, and there is still good parts support for them; the JH110s Otari 1" 8 can be had if you look around; like some of the online brokers. The Ampexs can be dicey...

Taking the BIG leap into 1" analog

Without a doubt ! This has been a dream of mine for at least 15 years, but it's never been more affordable, until now.

Taking the BIG leap into 1" analog

More expensive format, and maintenance, but I have to say I'm pretty stoked about my recent acquistion : an OTARi MX70 1" 8track. Comes with all manuals, the autolocator, and few spare reels of tape to get started . The seller, a doctor, upgraded to a 24-trk Studer  and put this and a 24...

Need a laundry list of rack modules

Hunt down an E-MU Vintage Keys,Vin" "Keys Plus, or Vin" "Keys Pro. I got one on eBay and it has very good samples of all the keyboard sounds that you mention. Alternatively a Kurzweil K2000R would do really well, too, and those can be had at very good deals on eBay ... I paid $400 for mine &...

    What keyboard do i need

I got lucky and found a lightly used SL 990 for $300@ the local Guitar Center. I like the feel of the weighted keys and it's metal case is rugged. I'm just using it at home so it should hold up forever I bought a Kurzweil K2000R for $400 on eBay and it has really nice cellos and violins . I'm...

Otari 2-track is sluggish on FWD/REV

Hey Rolf it took me a minute to realize who Vintage Tx is :D I really enjoy your website and had no idea that you posted here . I've recommended you as source of vintage manuals here and elswhere on the net, and do plan on picking up a couple myself, soon . I'm going to need one for my...

I give up. Somebody sell me a 1604 VLZ.

Wow,,what a bummer .. I should probably go thru and verify that all of MY channels are fully functioning on my recently acquired 320B  Have you notified your seller of the issue,, just to see what the response would be ? I wonder if he knew about it ,already  I could...

    My Studio 8 ..

Thanks Herm :) Do you rotate your use of the _2 good ones_ just to make sure that they stay operational, or is it really a matter of : " If something goes wrong it just will.. " ? Is it OK to have a good spare just *sitting in storage* ? ... just wondering .

    Tascam 38 questions

I've had this machine for about 5 years and never put it into service, as it needs a little bit of maintenance, I didn't have a proper mixer, was still using my 464 until it bit the dust, and a few dozen other excuses. So now that I've been on a campaign/binge to a$$emble a decent...

    My Studio 8 ..

Arrived, safely, yesterday, from Toronto, and, luckily, since it wasn't packed ultra-well; but adequate, arrived unscathed and in better condition than the photos revealed(cosmetically-speaking). In fact, it looks great, so it was apparently well taken care of. Everything's functioning(thank...

Otari 2-track is sluggish on FWD/REV

They appear to be in the up position, from what I can determine . The rubber seats(?) that the NAB hubs lock onto have metal surrounds(?) showing just below them, so I don't "think the tables are pushed in. I took the front cover off and am just generally looking inside the machine with a...

Otari 2-track is sluggish on FWD/REV

Hi Ghost ! I cleaned the transport, rollers, and tape path before putting on a fresh reel of tape. No squealing or noise even in regular play mode. Quiet machine. Depending on which reel (supply or take up) has more tape the tape does not want to continue shuttling; it must be restarted and...

Otari 2-track is sluggish on FWD/REV

Got an older Otari MX55 recently at a bargain Everything is working properly except the FWD and REV is sluggish. Depending on which reel has the most tape, either function has to be repeatedly restarted; only shuttling for a few seconds, before stopping. Play is fine; spooling the tape...
