    New snare options

I am looking into getting a new snare. I want something fairly versatile. I have a Tama brass piccolo snare that I will be keeping, so I don’t really need the really high crack sound, as I have the covered. I have a Pearl Prestige Session birch/mahogany 6 piece kit (currently only using a 4...

    Tunning Drums?

I have been a drummer for quite some time and I have read over the drum tuning bible, but I still have trouble getting my kit to sound good. I find it very difficult to get each lug to match each other and get a consistent pitch. Am I missing something??!!

    Advice needed

Ok, I have a couple of questions: 1. The following link is photos of my studio. The problem is there is a wall behind one of the monitors and not the other. I have been told that this is not a good situation. Some have suggested that I move the desk into the corner (but out a little ways to...

    building bass traps

Thanks for the help. When wrapping the fabric, did you just sew the fabric to itself on the backside or glue it to the fiberglass? Did you use any special glue for putting the velcro on the MDF?

    building bass traps

Ok, I need to give you further clarification. I am using the Insul Shield plus MDF as temporary walls in the live room. John Sayers gave me the idea to help tone down reflections and create non-parallel walls. However, I am not quite sure how to mount them together. As far as the corner...

    building bass traps

Anyone? Is a wood frame the best idea? Chicken wire, would that work. I am just not sure, but I was thinking of a wood frame made out of 2X4's.

    building bass traps

I got some Johns Manville Insul Shield insulation and some MDF to create some bass traps (and the MDF will act as a reflective surface on the other side, should I need it). I plan on rapping the Insul Shield in fabric. However, I am not sure how exactly to mount the Insul Shield on to the MDF...

    plexiglass vs plywood

I was planning on putting plywood down underneath my drums to create a reflective surface (floor is carpeted). However, I thought that plexiglass might be easier on the carpet (snags and all). Will plexiglass work just as well? Aaron

    Studio help

Well, I was planning on buying some thin plywood to lay down on the floor when needed for recording. We just put that carpet in last summer, so its a little expensive to replace it already. Plus, the live room is going to double as a family room when we are not recording. It's cooler...

    Studio help

My studio Ok, I am now finally able to start putting together my studio in the basement of our house (the basement is an apartment that we rented out before, but now I get to have my studio down there). I need a little help figuring out exactly what I need to do to make it sound better...

    Problems with RME Multiface

I just got an RME Multiface and PCI card. I set it up on my computer with Windows XP Home. I have outputs 1 & 2 for my monitors and 3 & 4 for my headphone amp. I am using N-track for my software. I was playing a song in N-track to test it out. However, I can only get 2 of the outputs (1 set...

    Microphones!!

Just thought I would point out that I bought the SM57's from Toy Room and they were in EXCELLENT shape when I got them. Very reasonable price as well. If I was interested in any of the mics he was still selling, I certainly would buy them from him (just running out of money though). Just my...

Difference between AT4050/CM5 and the AT4050?

I just noticed that the AT4050/CM5 and the AT4050 are two different mics. What is the difference between them (other than AT doesn't make the AT4050/CM5 anymore) I noticed that the high band pass on the AT4050/CM5 is more abrupt, but other than that, I didn't notice anything. Anyone know?

    Which Sticks Do You Use?

I have been using Peter Erskine sig Vic Firth's (round tip). Great stick, but the tip does tend to chip after some use. May have to start looking into a new stick.

    drum heads for recording

I am setting up a recording studio in my basement. I am planning on buying some new heads for my kit (I plan on using a 4 piece, so it would be a 10" and a 14", along with a 14" snare). I plan on playing mostly pop/rock style. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what type of heads...
