    compact flash card

For whomever is intent on trying a 2 gig card, I just received one (brand yet unknown) with my new Sony digital camera. So far, I haven't had time to try it in my MR-8 mainly because I'm having too much fun with the camera, but I will soon and let you know. Regards, Steve

    MR-8 vs. Computer Recording

I never had much success recording directly into the computer. The noise was too great. I must just have a noisy soundcard. I figured that by the time I upgraded the soundcard, I would be better off just buying the MR-8 given that the cost difference isn't too great. I, like others here...

    really stupid midi question!

Makes sense. Thanks for the detailed explanation. My guess is that the notation software sets up method #3 automatically whereas Calkwalk doesn't make the same assumptions because of its greater capabilities. I'll check my sound card to see if its specific driver is missing (it may be using...

    really stupid midi question!

I think I understand what you are saying but I find it peculiar that all the "Getting Started" guide says is to make sure that your sound card is listed as the output device. You'd think that if I was to have something else hooked up, they'd tell me. Hmmm... Or maybe I completely...

    really stupid midi question!

Cakewalk 2004 is just the newest version. It's basically the same as 2002. Thanks, Steve

    really stupid midi question!

Hi all. I have used Calkwalk for several years now. I've always used in the same way, to master stereo recordings of guitat. In other words, wave files. I know very little of the program's capabilities so for kicks this evening, I thought I should (finally) go through the tutorials. Btw, I...

What is wrong with my mic? Please help!

you what!!! Your wife's b-day money? Good Lord, I hope that was a joke cuz if it isn't, I don't check into the newly-divorced-former-home-recordist-forum all that often and I would surely hate to see your first post! :D    ;) Steve

??? about small PA system by Hollinger

Hi, I need a small PA system in the 100 watt class. This will not get a tremendous amount of use. Part of the time it will serve as a CD player in the backyard, etc. Oh, when I do use it for gigs, I play classical guitar. Anyway, has anybody heard of or had experience with a company called...

    Electret capsule question

In another thread, electret capsules are discussed. One of the mics mentioned is the AT3035. It was my understanding that electret capsules don't require phantom power and yet my AT3035's do. What's the story here? Also, I noticed that the street prices for AT3035's aren't much different...

    Oh my God!

You know, it can be hell having a conscience. If, however, they still want you to have them after the appraisel, go for it. You have done your duty. On the other hand, they could all be knockoffs ala that thread a few days ago that had pics from eBay! Sorry, I had to say that to quelch my...

ima newbie and i need some advice

It's not WHAT you asked but rather How you asked it. That you see nothing wrong with how you framed your question and the various follow-ups tells me that you are indeed 17 and if you learn nothing from this, you will probably remain 17. 'tis a pity. "Better to remain silent and be thought a...

ima newbie and i need some advice

I tried that route with tech school 30 years ago. I just finished college at age 49. Times change, don't forget that. Also, whatever you do, learn to spell. You'll get more jobs based on that than almost anything else. I say this btw as one who hires and fires. One of the things I look for...

    Recording Minutes for the MR8

The good news is that you CAN upgrade your operating system on the MR-8. This wasn't made clear by the others. The current is V1.20. Also, check out the other thread that talked about the cheap 1 gig cards. This should give plenty of record time. If you get a card reader ($10-20) for the CF...

    Where's the old threads?

I've been gone a while involved in work and so forth. What actually happened? I read that the posts were "gay" but that really doesn't tell an old fart like me very much. And why the mic forum and not the others? Thanks. Steve

    Home Studio 2004 Book Recommendation

Silly me! I should have looked at the poster before I ordered the book. :D Just kidding. I have "cakewalk power" and learned much. I just ordered "Sonar2 Power" via your website (and Amazon.com) and am looking forward to it. I had Calkwalk 2002 and didn't realize that so much had changed...

MR-8 and CF upgrade cards - User Experiences

If this helps, I have the SimpleTech 512Mb. It has a yellow, red and black label. The othe numbers seem to be control numbers and not model numbers. I don't do track bouncing but it records very well. Steve

MR-8 - weak link in signal chain?

Groucho, Here's the problem; I, like many others here, want good recordings but all we do is record ourselves or make a very limited number of tracks for a given recording. I don't have the experience to comment on the quality of the MR-8's A-D converters so we are left with the prospect of...
