New Omni Studio owner - questions

The CD drive has a wire with a little plug inside your computer that needs to be plugged in to an audio processor. The delta 66 does not have a slot for it! Many motherboards have one. Although a lot of people don't want motherboards with audio at all, so everything cleanly will get handled...

    4 tunes from jazz trio

OK, I tried again, and have put up new versions of the 4 tracks. They do indeed sound better to me after taking into account the advice here. The tunes are jazz standards. Ceora by Lee Morgan Cool Blues by Charlie Parker Doxy by Sonny Rollins You Stepped Out of a Dream by Nacio Herb Brown...

    4 tunes from jazz trio

That's an upright, not a bass guitar. But OK I'll try to balance it more with the guitar. So the actual sound of the bass is not the problem, just the level? Don't need to EQ or compress or whatever, just lower? I did add the reverb to the sax, and only the sax. Is it too much? There's a...

    4 tunes from jazz trio

OK, but how exactly would I go about that "taming" thing you mention?

    4 tunes from jazz trio

http://csua.berkeley.edu/~cody/xfer/3rdcoast/ I can only host these files here for a few days, so let me know what you think. This (or some subset of this) is a demo for getting gigs. I worked in Sonar 2 XL and Wavelab. Used some Timeworks plug-ins. Audio-Technica mic on the sax a few feet...

    Need higher quality MP3 converter

Well, good to hear it is just my media player being weird. bass direct off the transducer, and a room mic for guitar and sax. The Audio Technica ATM61HE. http://www.audio-technica.com/prodpro/profiles/ATM61HE.html Into M-audio omni (which has 2 preamps) into delta 66, into Sonar. Messed...

    Need higher quality MP3 converter

I think now, it's actually something to do with Windows Media Player. If I fast forward to the middle of the guitar solo, that's when I get the ring modulator. If I let it play, it's fine. And when I play it back in Soundforge, it's fine. Hopefully, that's a quirk of my computer, and other...

    Need higher quality MP3 converter

I have a nice wave file of a bass, guitar, sax jazz trio. There is a good amount of reverb on the guitar. When I convert to MP3 with soundforge or wavelab, the guitar solo (when it is just guitar and bass) sounds like it has a ring modulator on it. Everything else sounds fine, the guitar playing...

    sonar, delta, 98, drivers, static

Yes, going back to an older version of the driver is what I'm talking about. I know I've read of other people on this board having this problem. Did anybody solve it in any other way?

    sonar, delta, 98, drivers, static

So I have this problem that some other people have, where my delta66 produces staticy recordings MOST of the time in Sonar under Win98, but not in other programs. Solution suggested is to revert the drivers. I did that, and voila it works. I like Sonar enough to keep the drivers at this...

    Mastering

One useful thing it has is a multi-band compressor. You can apply certain compressor/limiter settings to a certain frequency range, and do four frequency ranges at once. Very flexible, powerful tool.

    BPM Calculator

If the original is not recorded to a click, it will be VERY hard to match a MIDI program to it. Basically, you will have to put in a lot of little tempo adjustments whenever it starts to get too far off. Or you could lay down the part you want, with MIDI, export it to a wav file, and then...

    Stupid question about ancient gear

So I managed to use a virtual synth. This is pretty exciting. Sonar lets me map all the outs to a DXi synth after I create it, then I can send the outs of the synth to the soundcard and I finally hear everything as intended. So at least in Sonar, I have a solution.

    Stupid question about ancient gear

Thank you for such detailed responses to my poorly-phrased problems. Since so many things don't work, it is hard to describe. I am definitively getting Yamaha DX-7 sounds when I play MIDI files, e.g. in Sonar. I can get any one sound from the DX-7. (Oh, the audio output is hooked up, I'm...

    Stupid question about ancient gear

While I am not generally an idiot, MIDI is something I've totally ignored until recently. Sudddenly, I see how it could be useful, but I can't get it to work the way it's supposed to. I have as a MIDI in/out a Soundblaster Live something something. Then, as my soundcard on my PC, I have the...
