    Presonus Eureka

Saw a great review on the Presonus eureka. Made me say,"Hmm". Anybody here have or use one? I'd like to know what you think.

How much did you pay for your most expensive axe?

5000$ for a 57 Gretsch 6120. My last hurrah when I had a real job.

    Recuerdos de la Alhambra

PS - There's another piece called La Ultima Cancion that uses that same technique. It's by a composer named Barrios. John Williams recorded it and it's beautiful.

    Recuerdos de la Alhambra

The first time I started working at it I was so slow it was comical! I'm just a perservering son of a bitch.

    Recuerdos de la Alhambra

I wannna say it took me about 2 years of chewing at that tune before it sounded like it should. It was like learning the F chord. One day you say, "When did I start to do this good?". Once you get good with that technique, though, you can apply it to other tunes. It works good on tunes with...

    Recuerdos de la Alhambra

Hey CanopuS- Your impression is correct. Thumb arpeggiates while the index, middle and ring fingers do what classical guys call the tremelo technique. I have that down but it took a long time before I got it to sound smoothe. True story- I learned Recuerdos de la Alhambra and had it...

    recording vocal with 2 mics

Is setting up 2 different condenser mics to record 1 vocal a good move? If so, can anybody offer ideas about mic placement, do's, don'ts, or any tips and techniques in general? Thanks to all who answer.

    Which way is UP????

Yes, I go through that, too. I (attempt to) clear that up on the very first lesson in the "about your guitar" discussion. I let them know it's all about pitch, not physical location. BTW, did you ever have a student put the foot stool under his left foot to raise his leg to support...

    clipping on meter

Thanks for replying. If the 2816 has that feature, I don't think I have it set that way. I believe the levels have jumped over zero. You play a part just the way you want and it really sucks to have to record it over. That's showbiz.

    clipping on meter

I've noticed that some of the the tracks I've recorded are peaking on the meters but sound just fine. Will not recording these over bite me in the ass later?? This is on a Yamaha 2816, btw.

    Best Strat

Like Freeform, I bought a basic over-the-counter US of A Strat in 98. (Lake Placid Blue). I could not be happier. Great for rock, blues, country and pop. Dollar for dollar it's terrific, considering that it's an American made, professional quality guitar.

    keyboard scales

Thanks for the replies. Now I see that fingerings for piano are as absolute as they are for guitar. ;-) For what it's worth, I found this chart on line- http://www-student.furman.edu/users/r/rkelley/scalfing.htm

    keyboard scales

Hey Keyboardists- I'm a guitar guy who is messing around with piano, now. Are there any online fingering charts for piano scales? I hate to practice wrong! Thanks!

    Anyone Ever Give Guitar Lessons?

I use a Mel Bay book for reading and guitar manuscript book for riffs, chords, tunes, etc. For really little kids like 6 or 7 I just use the manuscript. This way I can write in the notes at their pace. I teach everyone a simple A blues from day 1. Then we build on that. Add in the 9th chords...

    Favorite guitar player quotes.

This is paraphrased but Johnny Lee Hooker said something like, "Blues began the day Adam laid his eyes on Eve". I always liked that.

    Boss DR 550 MKII

Thanks - that's good to know. I notice that using more expensive e-drums gets trashed pretty good around here. BTW, he owned a Mesa Boogie but didn't forget to take that.
