What I am going to be aiming at is something like this, I suppose:
The Fabfilter also sounds much better with a linearphase EQ after, personally I prefer my own gaussian.
Mastersection here is, highpass, EQ, L316, EQ, Fabfilter w/ 4 bands, EQ, Millennium Limiter...
I have such an untrained vocal. Here with max autotune.

I was wondering how it would sound with a trained male vocal.
Are you are trained male vocalist, and would like to participate in the experiment?
Record your vocal...
Millennium Manybands Limiter first alpha released (very early version), with a soundclip of this 30 band process :)

PBWY.
I revised the mix. I don´t think I´m the right guy to do this style though :) I don´t really know what powerchords are about. It´s just me testing the L316 a bit, and I definately think it sounds better on rock music.
PBWY!
Just adding this to my argument: The rare times I pick up a guitar these days, playing style something like this is much more interesting:
That people have such sentiments for reduced fidelity, clipping amps, I do not understand. There is nothing magic there, only the ghosts in your head. If...
Or actually combining the manyband, for purely peaks, and the multiband, for a bit more processing, to a singleband would be the best.
Which then probably approximating optimal bandsplits with 24dB LR splits, will make this feasible.
PBWY.
Listening a bit to it today also. Sounds quite nice :)

Maybe I should do my own 4band multi. I think it would be fun to make one with gaussian windowed sinc bandsplits.
PBWY.
I tested it a bit more, and found it to sound ok up to 4 bands, but after that bandsplitting artifacts become too much. The L316 is a much better manybands process, than this at 10, but for 3-4 bands, it is quite ok.
PBWY.
Ok. I just tried it. I did not load normally in Logic Audio (5, win). But I could wrap it in EnergyXT VST. Smooth FFT display on my low-jitter windows XP. But as I try to do basic 3 band limiting, to test it a bit, the GUI gets abit in the way, too much colours, and bouncy GUI elements. I...
FabFilter Pro-MB - Multiband Compressor Plug-In VST VST3 AU AAX RTAS AudioSuite
Looks like a traditional multiband. Fabfilter actually did a saturated attack, after I did mine way back many years ago. Maybe they have some sense :) I can always try it.

Millennium DSP :)
My own limiter is also getting ready.
With a litte mixtweaking, one gets it as loud as a boosted L316 master. So while manybands are an interesting concept, they are not necessary, and avoiding them also avoids an area of DSP that is yet not quite developed fully, while...
I don´t know the genre so well, and thought it sounded like much others in the genre, so normal to me.
PS: Remember that mixing on poor D/A is senseless for midrange.

I did a mod on the synthedit Polysynth, adding a saturation section, which really is quite logical, to get "analog" sound.
It seems saturation can be generalized to high and low emphasis on the oscs, and then a clipper, then a low-emphasis before the filter, to make the res behave like vintage...
Some numbers are always nice when mastering. About 5dB of envelope is max, before it gets noticable.
To find that value, you can use a peak limiter, and limit things so that there is no envelope. (just before enveloping). And then set a compressor before it, with 5dB more threshold.
Also I...
I didn´t use them for a long time myself, actually either. But the manybands-processes are a bit interesting, so I have tried them. And multiband sometimes are genre-correct.
I did a master on a track, that was genre correct, without multiband. Just oldschool "drive the input, to the point of...
I agree that multibands do not always work. But traditional multiband = 3-8 bands typically with attack and release, and the usual controls. While ofcourse in more recent manyband-limiters more general ideas can be applied, from a psychoacoustic perspective. For instance, maximal limiting...
