    Recording level noise

wow that's alot of noise. yeah I get like 32.5. It starts at that. Good thing I also have a VX400 and can go through the USB. That way I get no noise at all. I just wanted to try and record using my N-Track. But it seems the USB way is much better I guess. Oh well. Thanks for the helps guys.

    Which Computer?

AMD is cheaper. It runs hotter I guess than an Intel cause it's clocked faster. That's the only difference there is.

    Recording level noise

It's hiss. Like tape hiss. Actually louder than tape hiss. Especially when I normalize the track.

    Recording level noise

I'm getting constant recording level noise. I haven't a clue where it's coming from. I checked everything. My recording level meter shows a constant noise coming from sonewhere even when the mic is off. I have a HP notebook with a VIA Audio soundcard and I use mic in to record. Anyone know...

Hey you solo recordists...do you practice?

I used to be in a band as well. Now I'm a solo artist. I record all my practices and when doing a demo I like to play guitar and sing everything in one take which is good practice. However I tend to end up doing like tons of takes but it's all good practice. :)

How do I lay down a drum track?

Hmmm....thanks for the info guys. Yeah I have a VX400, Cakewalk and a Boss drum machine. I could use midi. I guess mapping it out and programming the drum machine would be a good way to go as I could also store the pattern and use it later when I'm playing live.

How do I lay down a drum track?

I want rolls, breaks etc in the drum track. I might be able to program the drum track first and then play guitar to it.

How do I lay down a drum track?

Re: Re: How do I lay down a drum track? I am a drummer. I'm going to try recording the guitar track to a metronome or I'll just record the kick and snare and add the toms, cymbals and breaks later.

How do I lay down a drum track?

I'm recording a demo and I'd like to record some drums. I know I can't put the drums on last cause they won't line up so I need to put them on first I guess. However I'm using a drum machine but I don't want it to sound like a drum machine. I mean I want rolls and stops in places etc. so it...

    what do preamps do?

2 things I'll never perform on stage and record without - a preamp and a compressor. Preamps give vocals and guitar a fatter more present sound and compressors keeps everything neat and tidy. Basically that's what they do. I've been using my guitar pedal lately for vocals cause it has preamp...

What's your opinion on the Digitech Vx400?

I'm thinking about buying one. I need something for vocals and to run my acoustic guitar through. Also I like the recording feature. Is this a good product? I do small solo gigs using a small Peavey 50w acoustic amp and would like to control all the fx's etc. from a floor pedal instead of a...

    Recording Setup

Hmmm that should work well for a live recording. My old band was going to use a Sony stereo instrumental mic and Sony mini disc. However to do a better more pro recording I'm running everything line direct through preamps then into my laptop and monitoring with good monitors. Then keeping the...

How can I change a mic in to a line in on my laptop?

Thanks. I checked with friend of mine and he said with a laptop you can only have what comes with it. It does connect via USB so I guess it will work. Oh and it comes with multi tracking software. I think I'll get it. It only costs $150. :)

    16 bit vs 24 bit

I use 16 bit which is for CD and DAT. Great sound quality. Sounds great. I also save files as mp3's for upload to the net.

How can I change a mic in to a line in on my laptop?

Thanks. The problem is that the signal going into the mic input is hot and the mic input on my laptop is hot so the signal is unbalanced or something like that. That's what I was told. And it's hard to monitor cause the levels on the mixer have to be lowered so much. Also when I record this way...

How can I change a mic in to a line in on my laptop?

My laptop only has mic in but I need a line in cause I'm using a mixer and running my guitar and mic through it. Does anyone know a way to convert a mic in to a line in or do I have to buy another sound card? I don't want to buy another sound card cause I'm getting a digital 8 track in a month...
