Kick - I prefer the Audix D6 for kick, I used a Beta 52 for years, but switched last year.
Toms - Shure Beta 98s, I can get great sounds every time, amazing rejection qualities.
Snare - SM57
Overheads - Stereo pair of Rode NT-1s, ORTF, centered above drummers head
I don't mic hi-hats. So...
I'm looking for pics of a studio under construction using seperate slabs. I can't seem to find any info on it; what to put in the space, how big a space etc.
Thanks,

Wouldn't it be Neumann-Gefell, Microtech is a secondary company that ended up taking over Gefell in the 80s and Neumann was the company that was in Gefell, so it's Neumann-Gefell, not that it matters, the new Neumann's are crap compared to the older ones. It's kinda sad when you think about it...
I love all the old Altec equipment, I don't care if its an eq, compressor, mic pre, mixer... it has a sound that I really love, I love it like I love the Spectrasonics 610. If you are doing chamber music, pass, but if you are recording almost any type of rock and you can get a good deal on the...
This is taken directly out of Artist Pro magazine, almost word for fu#kin' word... thanks for the info, I don't know what I would have done without you!!!!!!!!

This unit is really great, the best thing about it is that it is the most straight forward unit I've ever seen. It's clean and it's functions are simply laid out in an operator oriented design. They've also just released new updates for Nuendo 2...

It looks like I left out monitors, sorry, you'll want to invest some money into some decent monitors at an earlier stage. I've seen people get really discouraged with their home set-up because they were trying to start recording with headphones and were having a terrible time getting things to...
Unless you plan on using the SPDIF on the 66, don't get it, buy the 44, 4 analog I/Os. I'm not sure what you want to spend, but with that I'd get a Soundcraft M4 mixer, 4 channel with direct outs and 4 stereo returns for a total of 12 channels. That would be a pretty nice set up into say...
Emily Lazar (The Lodge) doesn't use audiophile speakers, she uses Genelec 1030A's, but yes, it is true that most mastering engineers use audiophile speakers, I'm looking at building a mastering suite in my new studio and I'm thinking of using B&W Nautilus speakers...

Does anyone have any experience with this console (or Ramsa's in general) I have found one in good working order for a nice price. How do they sound, how are the EQ's etc? Also, it has RCA Direct Outs and Tape Returns, is there anyway to have this switched to 1/4" balanced in the future...
The fact of the matter is that the Behringer stuff is overpriced for their true quality, and I think most Mackie stuff is to. If you are truly looking for great quality at a budget Soundcraft makes some of the best stuff around, and the fact that you can get used Soundtracs, Soundcraft, DDA and...
Diddo on the ADAMs Blue Bear, I just finished mixing a record on the 2.5's? I believe, I can't remember, I don't own them so I guess I don't have to know the name... but yeah, highly impressed, I'm saving up some cash for the P22A's.

On that note, I think we should all bombard Soundcraft with a plead for 16, 20 and 24 channel versions of this board! I mean, if a large enough number of people emailed they would at least have to say NO instead of ignoring us :)

Too bad you can't budget in an M8. This board is probably the best 8 channel board on the market. 8 direct outs, 4 stereo returns for effects, inserts... kind of makes you long for a 24 channel version, at the prices the boards go for it would be under $1500 street.

Before you trash it, maybe you should wait and see how they perform. Mackie makes decent equipment for the price and Keith Olsen has done some great things for them. The D8B was a step up in quality and the new DxB looks like it may be a great deal. I'm not a mackie user, I prefer vintage gear...
On a budget the Neutrik NYSPP is the best bay out there, flippable cards and great build quality. Larry Crane (Tape Op, Jackpot! Studios)'s whole studio is wired with this bay.

Yes and no. I can't stand fake pitch correction, it annoys the hell out of me. But I must say, that if you really want a unit go for an antares plug in, if you aren't using a DAW then stay away, the rack mount versions are useless.
