I'm following this with some interest because I've been using a 3630 and I'd like to upgrade. As with the 3630, I,d like a 2 channel that can be stereo linked or channels used seperately (I like to use it when recording instruments and/or a kick and then use it linked on final 2X mix down)...

I can record with line-ins, but I haven't been successful using the SPDIFs- Could there be a SPDIF selection option for recording setup missing somehow? (Like having the Setup sftwre for the earlier version which didn't have SPDIF, only line-ins...) Please excuse my ignorance-I'm just learning...

I don't think you can beat a Mackie in the VLZ series. I'm on my second (larger) one...I shopped and listened to a lot of them before I settled on Mackie. If you want to be convinced, compare Mackie to others using a GOOD mic and headphones. The noise level on the Mackie is almost non-existent...
