Finally moved from older DAWs to Pro Tools, and boy am I impressed! Anyone know why?

Thanks for all the input! As for CoolEdit, I had been using Adobe Audition 3 until Ableton Live 9 came out. Steenamaroo, that's what I found interesting. I'm not sure if there's any technical reason for 44.1 khz to ever sound better than 96 khz, so I was just listing all the variables. I will...

Finally moved from older DAWs to Pro Tools, and boy am I impressed! Anyone know why?

I grew up using Acoustica and CoolEdit/Adobe Audition and when Ableton Live 9 came out, I gave it a go and was definitely blown away by the far newer quality stock VSTs and workflow, but I recently got a MacBook and a friend let me use Pro Tools 9 on it, and boy was I shocked. The actually...

Is it worth finding cheap tube pre's for Alesis MultiMix 8?

Not too long after getting my Alesis MultiMix 8, I wanted to check out a tube pre for it. I tried the low price point single input ART Tube MP and pretty much realized that it was nearly the exact same sound as my mixer's built in pre's (but for $30 extra). Has anyone had any luck with these or...

    Recording Gang Vocals

Have you tried just a single large di condenser in the room? My old band did that on one track and it came out pretty well. You could even try 2, because on our track, I did notice that certain louder voices definitely stood out (as is the nature of that kind of mike), or you could have louder...

Help: Using a microphone through a preamp and into a line-input!

Yes, you can use the ART PRE in the line-in, XLR to line-in even. the gain on the 1-4 channels will then be located on the ART pre. Recording drums is exactly why I wanted to try a pre on my multimix line-in's. The ART Tube Pre didn't sound any different to me than the MultiMix 8 pre's going...

    Preamp Shootout for under £1000

Dang it, never heard this John Mayer song, but I still like your voice over his. Probably my mind/ears playing a trick on me and I now subconsciously believe that his version is a cover of your's (you know how that is, when you hear a cover before an original!). :P I'm excited for your new...

Can you use a daw/midi control surface in Adobe Audition 3.0?

Mackie protocols, as in Mackie "codes"/calls being sent to the PC? I guess I will just have to buy one and check it out, and return it if it doesn't work out.

Help: Using a microphone through a preamp and into a line-input!

Thanks again! I'm still learning compression in Adobe Audition 3.0, new to mixing/mastering. Not having to purchase any gear atm is really nice, but I'm just trying to make sure I have everything I "need" to get the right sounds.

    Preamp Shootout for under £1000

I dig this song, btw! I could really tell the difference in the mixes, the 220 sounding fuller, more clear and seemed to handle your voice a bit better. The XMAX seemed bright but thin. However, for the price difference, I would totally use the XMAX over the 220 at home! It still sounds pretty...

Help: Using a microphone through a preamp and into a line-input!

Thanks for the info, I checked your post. As far as using the MP to add extra pre's, I have 4 line-in's I need to fill, so the TLA 5001 would be perfect, but if the MPAII is good, I wouldn't mind having 2 :P Thing is, I don't really NEED pre's right now, won't be recording drums for some...

Can you use a daw/midi control surface in Adobe Audition 3.0?

I was looking at a DAW/MIDI Surface controller, but was wondering if Audition 3.0 supports it. I know Reason, Ableton, Reaper, etc. (those good ol' MIDI programs) are supported, but I wanted to use a Korg nanoKONTROL2 for mixing and a USB MIDI foot switch assigned with transport buttons like...

Help: Using a microphone through a preamp and into a line-input!

Well, I had gotten the ART MP tube pre, and ran XLR in, TRS out into the MultiMix, and it didn't sound any different from the Multi's pre's, so I took the MP back. Gonna save up for a TLA 5001 or I've been looking at the ART MPA II (also interested in the compressor on this). Thanks for asking!

    USB MIDI Controller Footswitch

yes! I saw that on Amazon and it looked like just what I needed (as far as the use of it), but it's quite outside of my budget for a foot pedal :p Thank you for your input, although this MIDI foot switch is a little expensive, there's probably a cheaper one, as long as I know this is the thing...

    USB Foot switch Suggestions/your input

I would rather not use my hands, really. and I wouldn't really have any surfaces next to me when recording in the middle of the room with mikes placed on me. If I had it in my lap, that would be something to think about while trying to record (trying not to drop it), if I have it on the floor...

    USB Foot switch Suggestions/your input

Does anyone use one of these? I am looking for a good model @ a good price. I saw the Scythe 3 switch, but the reviews I've seen on it are mixed (mostly about the driver/software, which I will be using xpadder software anyways, but if the driver doesn't work... well, the device doesn't work!). I...

    USB MIDI Controller Footswitch

Hi, I was looking around for a USB foot switch so that I can hit record, stop and back in Adobe Audition without having to go to the PC. I saw some MIDI controller foot switches and was curious if this is what I'm looking for, or if this is for something else. I basically want to assign the...

Help: Using a microphone through a preamp and into a line-input!

See, what I had seen was that part of the manual, and then just after it "The XLR output of theTUBE MP is active balanced You may Òse it in an unbalanced configuration without harm to the output cir- cuitry. Use the unbalanced 1/4Ó jack for sending your signal to amps, processors or other...

Help: Using a microphone through a preamp and into a line-input!

Well, I do have 2 SDC, but they aren't a matching pair, 2 LDC (also not matching), and the 2 dynamics... I suppose I can just use the not matching SDC's to replicate that sound (I'm going to need more XLR cables!). Also, using a pair of dynamics instead might give me that little bit of lo-fi...

Should I use an interface after my mixer to record? Details inside!

I noticed while playing around, I can send a mono signal with one mike into my MultiMix, then run the 2 main-outs to the L and R of the Tascam, and record the Tascam, getting a stereo image... Does this sound right? Or is this just a crappy way to get a crappy signal/crappy quality recording...
