    Issue with new monitor setup

OK, I tried multiple sound sources, inputs and cables. All the same issue. I also hooked up my multimeter and measured the voltage from channel 1 and channel 2 when passing a 60hz signal through the amp. Channel 2 was 3x louder than channel 1 at 50% volume and above.

    Issue with new monitor setup

hey thanks for the reply. I actually did try multiple cables and multiple sources (two different sound cards on the computer and also from an iPod). But I will try again to double check and also I'll try the 1/4 inputs on the amp to see if that makes a difference.

    Issue with new monitor setup

Hey guys, it's been a very long time since I've been here, but I'm hoping you can offer some advice to me. After borowing my brothers Aleses M1 Actives for two or three years, he finally asked for them back and I had to pick up a new monitor setup on the cheap. I got a pair of passive Monitor...

Trying to make sense of all the Joe Meek stuff (old vs. new)

That looks like a nice unit for sure, but way out of my price range.

Trying to make sense of all the Joe Meek stuff (old vs. new)

Thanks for the reply! Ah, very interesting. Wasn't aware of that stuff. Definitely out of my range, but always good to hear about new (to me) stuff. Is it a starved plate circuit, like the Tube MP? I have one of those, but was never thrilled with it. It's a pretty decent bass pre though...

Trying to make sense of all the Joe Meek stuff (old vs. new)

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, it seems like the main character of the JoeMeek line is the compressor, which isn't very subtle based on what I've read. DIgging deeper, it looks like the VC3 (with exciter) came first, then the VC3Q (with equalizer), then the MQ3 and finally the threeQ. Not sure...

Trying to make sense of all the Joe Meek stuff (old vs. new)

I've been looking around for a decent mic preamp on a tight budget to track vocals for my band's record. I had originally picked out the DMP3, but as I read more about the Joe Meek stuff, it started to really look interesting to me. But the more I read, the more confused I became - there's the...

Looking for new recording PC on a tight budget

Thanks for the input - I appreciate it! I thought I had subscribed to this post, but didn't get alerts on the messages. I hear you about not "overdoing it", but I'm trying to get something that will allow me to grow beyond Tracktion and expand the computer over time. The last one lasted me 7...

Looking for new recording PC on a tight budget

Can anyone offer an opinion on a Dell T1500 or a custom build experience with CPUSolutions.com?

Looking for new recording PC on a tight budget

It's been a while since I've been around here, but I always found this place to be a great resource. Since I'm now in the market for a new PC, I thought I'd come back again. I'm replacing my old Dell Dimension 2350. For all of the negative things I have read about Dells, I have to say this...

questions for anyone who has done the PVC monitor stands...

I had a bit of luck this week and my brother agreed to loan me is Alesis M1 MK2 Monitors since he hasn't been using them. The only problem is, my desk is way to cluttered (and small) to put the monitors on the desk surface, so I started looking into stands. I did some searching on this site...

Anyone using Native Instruments Guitar Combos/AC Box?

I downloaded the trial version of this last night and fooled around for a while. While there's no substitute for a mic'ed amp, I thought this did a really decent job... ...the only issue I had was with the noise - even with no instrument plugged in, I noticed that the stand alone version...

I've got it down to three soundcards...help me make it one!

Mike, that's very good advice and something I had not thought of. I will definately look into it. For the record, I am running on a Dell Dimension 2350 machine, 1.79 GhZ P4 with 512M RAM.

I've got it down to three soundcards...help me make it one!

Thanks for the great replies, guys... SRR, thank you for the spec breakdown on the cards. I appreciate it. pipelineaudio, I was looking at the Firepod originally, but money is extremely tight right now, so I'm putting a firm ceiling of $200 on this purchase. I suppose the MIDI isn't a...

I've got it down to three soundcards...help me make it one!

Would the 1010LT have the same low latency as the 44/66? Robert, the 1010LT is a step down in quality from the 44/66 sound wise? I thought I had read that before, but I never knew if it was a statement backed by fact or by opinion.

I've got it down to three soundcards...help me make it one!

Hey SRR, thanks for the input! Don't have a need for the ADAT at all and I don't see having a need for it in the future. At this point, I will have a need for at least 2 inputs at once. I'm sure down the line I will have a need for more, so in that regard, the the 1010LT could probably be...

I've got it down to three soundcards...help me make it one!

I'm in the process of putting together a very small and limited recording setup, and I've been putting off making my final decision on a sound card for a while now. The three contenders are as follows the M-Audio Delta 44 or 66, the Emu 1212M and the Echo Mia. All of these have balanced...

GREAT way to get fat drums, fast, with 3 mics...

We're getting ready to try this next week, though our drummer seems skeptical of the results we will get. Trying to debate what to use as overheads - I have access to two Behringer ECM8300's or one Rode NT1 and one GT Condenser. Not sure the best way to go. Also, we plan on micing the kick...

PC World article: Can You Still Build a PC for Less?

Sklathill, which Dell is that if you don't mind me asking? I've got one that (according to Dell) can only take up to 1 GB of RAM, but I had found some RAM on another website that claimed I could use up to 2 GB in the same machine.

What is your favorite USB/Firewire Interface?

Damn, you're right! There's actually only two analog ins - you can use either the XLR inputs or the 1/4" on the back. Well, that makes it a pretty easy decision!
