    Not personally. ;)

    Tom Waits inspired

I enjoyed this so much. A (unique) mix of Tom Waits, Eddy Wally, Jeff Buckley, American Music Club, The Streets. The only thing I would change is that the "low pass filter" effect is just slightly over-done. Otherwise perfect. Cheers Alastair

Final version (v4) done. More balancing, a little mix EQ, and gentle peak limiting. Same location as before. Cheers Alastair

Version 2 is available at the same location. I've made numerous changes thanks to comments from folk here, and others. Still no Autotune or mix processing, though. I'd be very grateful if anyone has the time to listen to the second mix. and let me know if it's better or worse than the first...

Wow, great responses. Cosmic - yee-hah - nah, I like it. It's staying! :) Khompewtur - great to see you here. Glad you liked the tune. I don't know where it came from - the only country album I own is Johnny Cash (American Recordings). Hope all is well with your excellent record label...

Cosmic - thank you very much for taking the time to listen and post. I'm really glad you enjoyed it! It's all me, except the drums which are loops. Proclaimers - one of my favourites, so thanks for that! Opening - agreed. I'll fix it in the next mix. Drums on the bridge - that's an...

    "Nice Paradise" - comments welcome

Hi all This is my first new song for a while. It's called "Nice Paradise" and bizarrely, it's come out as a weird Glasgow version of country. :D http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=3903&alid=-1 Anyway, I'd be very grateful for comments on any and all aspects: songwriting...

    HRC 4 - no, really!

LemonTree - great to hear from you. Thank you for the kind words. Stratomaster - thank you for listening and posting. I'm really glad you liked the song. Vocal timing things - you're spot-on - I was trying to catch my breath a LOT doing this one! I toned down the vocals a wee touch before I...

    HRC 4 - no, really!

StevenLindsey - really nice to hear from you again. I'm glad you enjoyed the song. I'm not hearing the level changes you mentioned, but that's probably just my ears. It might be the multi-band compressor I plastered over the top pumping or something? Don't worry - I'll be taking my...

chrisharris - great to hear from you. I didn't realise quite so many folk had emigrated! Thanks so much for your kind words - it means a lot. joro - thank you very much for listening and posting. The drum level is my fault - Bruce had them a bit louder, and I asked him to tone them down...

    HRC 4 - no, really!

Hi all Some of you may remember back in June there was a challenge for pairs of folk chosen at random to record a song, written specifically for the occasion, collaborating using the magic of the interweb. I was fortunate enough to be paired with Bruce Valeriani (aka BlueBearSound) who is a...

    Latest Recording (Sandweaver)

Really nice. I liked the song, and the singing was good. OK so a bit OTT, but as you say - nice to hear some feeling in there. I love your bass sound - solid, but still with clarity/definition. I can usually get one or the other, but not both :( I adored the percussion - beautifully crisp...

    "Sunday" - comments welcome

There's a new mix at the same link. The main change is that I've removed the "room" reverb and gone for a more traditional "studio" reverb sound. I'd be very grateful for opinions on whether it's an improvement. Toki987 - thank you very much for listening and posting, and nice to hear from...

Paco - thank you for listening and for the very kind comments. I've toned down the squeaks even more in the third mix, which is now up. Shug is going to re-do the vocal soon, to try and sort out the areas you mentioned. Thanks for the pointers. Re brothers - me and Shug have been in bands or...

kjam22 - thank you very much for listening, and for your kind comments. I'm just about to post a new mix with a bit of tweaking, and a more intimate room sound. If you have the time, I'd love to hear if you think it's an improvement. It's at the same link as before.
