Cheers for that, yeah I don't really wanna push over £200/$250 for a mixer and about £150 for a soundcard/external interface. I'd like to go balanced to my monitors to be honest (I've had nothing but hassle with unbalanced output straight from the back of my PC, so something with balaned outputs...
Sorry, I should have put IMO at the beginning of both those statements... my bad :) Or IME... In My Experience... but I'm not sure anyone would really get that :D
From my experience condensers are best for vocals in a recording situation. Dynamic mics pick up echos and reflections from most...
Signs of Life:- Great vocals, everything sounds really well mixed and professional. The only thing I hear that might want changing (relying on my monitors of-course) is the backing electric guitar. It could do with fattening/turning up a bit. It sounds a bit hollow in the overall mix to me...
Just a little add-on to this, you want closed headphones so no sound from the metronome, or anything else on the track you're listening to leaks through into the mic
For vocals you want a condenser mic, for drums & some other instruments dynamic mic/s are probably best (shure). Your room...
I only really recently started taking mixing more seriously since I learned a few things on my Uni course, this is probably the 5th track I've had a go at mixing (and a bit of mastering by running an EQ & Maximizer over the whole track)
If you can let me know what you think of the mix overall...
I use Xilisoft audio converter. It has loads of conversion options available and it's totally free. The only niggle is that you can only encode 3 files per session... but you only have to close it then open it again to unlock 3 more
So something like this? http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/lexicon-ionix-u22-usb-2-0-audio-interface--61340
And it's not possible to route the sounds from reason through the processors, say if I wanted to run the drums through the compressor for example? In that case, all the mixer would be...
So a new soundcard then? I knew I wouldn't be keeping the 2496 for long... I've only had it for 3 months :)
I've read some good things about those devices... there was a really positive review in Sound on Sound. Surely they've gotta be better than the EQs and Compressors in Reason? I'm trying...
These are about the only questions I can try and answer :)
If you set up two audio tracks in Logic and lock them both to record, you can record onto both tracks then pan them hard left and hard right. I'm not too sure about 'distinguishing' them from eachother.
Panning the lead guitar would...
I'm working on an EP project for my Uni course at the moment. My tutor's had a listen through a few of the tracks I was thinking of including and he commented on how I seem to leave a lot of 'empty' space. I told him I always leave room for a rapper/vocalist and he basically said I need to get...
I'm looking at getting some hardware processors to help with mixdowns and effects on some software instruments. I've never used anything other than the software devices so bare with me...
I've got an M-Audio 2496 soundcard which only really has phono I/Os & a MIDI I/O for connecting to external...
Cheers Frank, I had a feeling that might be the case...
I've moved the speakers back a few inches and my listening position further from them and it's made a big difference. They're pretty big monitors so I guess they just need a bit more distance :). I'll be building some bass traps once I've...
I've got a pair of M-Audio BX8a Deluxe monitors (on stands) and am having a lot of trouble trying to get a decent low-end in my listening position. If I stand in the corner of the room the bass sounds amazing (but obviously overblown) but in the 'sweet spot' I can barely hear it, which is a...
There's a screenshot of the old control panel software in the manual which has the 'consumer' & '-10dBV' settings but the new control panel doesn't have anything, just 'Sample Rate' & 'ASIO Buffer Size'. There's no jumper on the card itself & I can't test my stereo, I don't have the right leads :(
