Nevermind,
Just found that out for myself. Turns out pretty much all of em allow you to export the raw sound files. Am now looking into: 2488NEO for half price, Tascam DP-24, and Zoom z24.
Thanks for the opinion! Glad to hear that Tascam has worked well, especially since those were the first portable options I was looking at. Do you know if these also record each track as an individual raw file, just in case I want to take it back to my homebase and edit it?
I was thinking that exact thing. Getting the room sound as well would give it a more 'live' kind of sound :). Sounds like I could get away with a portastudio for the tracks themselves and then have something separate for the room/audience sounds (as long as I have enough room for all the live...
Hey all,
My buddies run live sound for shows throughout the year, and want them recorded live. They have recently recorded the live show in stereo through their main board's output, but want something recorded down to be able to edit later. I'm interested in taking up the job, but will need a...
I should have clarified; basically I can't get the input I want with my current mic: an SM57. For the amount I want to get out of it I often have to turn the gain up high to the point where I get some nice fuzz at about -60 on the input channel.
Thanks for the heads up, I'll look into ART. The alesis ones are just a bit noisy...I mean after all the mixer itself isn't exactly the priciest and well put-together
Yeah I guess it couldn't hurt...at least the mics would be ready for later. Having the mics without the preamp would certainly be more useful than preamps without the mics :P
The H4n was certainly awesome when I got the chance to test it out.
Here is my 2 cents: I wanted to get something similar to the H4n, but a little cheaper, so I got the Zoom H2. Honestly, I wish I had pushed for the H4n. I have used the H2 while abroad, recording environmental sounds like...
Hey all,
Just wondering if I could get some advice on a near-future mic purchase. I am interested in investing in a matched pair of Rode NT1s because I used them at my college studio in the past and they sounded very crisp. I also feel like I need to up my mic setup from my current availability...
I would second those who suggested to buy Reaper. 60 bucks ain't bad. It's pretty barebones in terms of fancy doo-dads and detailed effects (part of its charm ;)), but you can find plenty of free VST Plugins and instruments online to get you started
A lot of recording software now comes with the ability for you to "flip" an audioclip's wave pattern in an attempt to eliminate phase problems. You can always record the two mics together, take a listen, and see if both mics are coming through clearly.
I believe a phase issue occurs when you...
In that case it sounds like an issue stemming from your laptop and sound card setup. What type of end does the power cord of your laptop have on it when you plug it into the wall? I was having trouble with noise from my laptop through my receiver and speaker system, and realized it was ground...
I've been monitoring through a set of Cambridge Soundworks speakers hooked up to a receiver (Talk about noisy), and a pair of AKG k240 headphones. I think the next step should almost DEFINITELY Be studio monitors. The room itself is a whole different ball game. I'm in a basement, and basically...
I am working with one mic (SM57), an 8 channel mixer, and recording software via firewire, but I'd like to expand my equipment choices and options. Of course there are many different aspects of your studio you can upgrade at any given time, but at this point I think my priorities are in a bigger...
Hey all,
My name is Brent. Just graduated college with a degree to teach highschool/middle school maths, but I'm dying to get back into teaching myself. I've been on and off HR the past few years while learning a bit about recording, but I'm still relatively new at the game. Now that I'm free...
