Re: repetitive progressions
Good post, Scott.
No doubt, there are thousands up on thousands of songs written within the same progression.
What I'm trying to do is to try new ways for 'me' to write new material. I've played Jazz, Blues, Counrty and Rock, and the fingering in Jazz and...
Ummm, no, I'm not a Virgo. I'm the one in October, what ever that is.
Obsessive Compulsive behaviour.

I prefer to call it, ignorance.
First off, I'm a musician, and songwriting has only came to more than a passing interest to me since I come to this board, or a year or so...

Historical songs are cool.
I'm doing a western song call, Beyond The Dawn, about a cattle drive. It's fictional, though. That's my extent of history and music, as far as I know.
I like the many ways you work on your projects. That's what I'm trying to do. The toughest thing I...
Thanks for your post, Larry. Lemme say right off, I've been playing music over forty years, and know zillch about theory. Well, I know it, but not in the techie sense. To prove this inadaqucey on my part, let me state this.
I'm going to have to redo all my l, lV, etc ideas if what you say it...
I hope my question here is related to the first post by, progmr.
I have a two channel EQ with duel 31 bands. I also have a duel channel compressor. Also, I've never played bass much in my life, until I began recording my own songs.
When I record my bass, the strings, ADG sound great, but the...
I can't agree with you more, Layla.
A couple of the songs I'm working on is being done soley by inspiration, a few others are just reworks of older songs I've written, and several are being done by thought processes. Working out various problems I knew I've had for the past few years but have...
I've taken the advice of several guys here, after becoming fed up with my computer, and have switched entirely to hardware.
The way I'm planning on linking all this stuff together is as follows.
Guitar, Mic, Drums, Keyboard, Bass,
Into the,
Mixer,
Then into the
Compressor,
Then into...
grinder.
Very interesting map.
Wonderful possibilitys.
What do the arrows mean though? Like 'Home l' for example.
Are the arrows pointing into 'Home' what is possible to use, or the one arrow going out, to the next chord?
I'm sure the arrows pointing into the 'Home' mean those are the...
I have no TV so I know about that.
I don't have internet access nor a computer anymore, I'm at my folks place right now.
As far as the songs on the radio, I don't listen to them. I became disallutioned with lable recordings long ago. I'm not saying I don't like many of the songs,,,,
What I...
One thing I try to keep in mind, and experiement with, is while changing chords, have the melody aiming for a note in the next chord.
By doing this and shifting the notes around within the scale your playing in, you should come up with some thing.
But, as always, there is a exception.
The...
What the hell has this got to do with songwriting?
I'm sure Sky has trouble writing songs with one hand and gawking at pictures. Probably has a pile of wadded up paper towels next to his chair too.
Joro2.
Sure, you can here them when I'm done.
Ummm, are you Joro also or are you someone else?
Joro is Joe, too.

Where to find progressions?
Hmmm. Good Question.
Actually, it's probably easier than we think. This is a new way of songwriting for me and I have so many pokers in...
The way I see it is that poetry is a stand alone art. What it says lends feelings and emotions to the reader.
Songwriting is dealing with other conciderations.
Music being the main one. The contraste or cohesion between the lyrics and the music make the song.
I find it most difficult to...
A few months ago I began weeding out my collection of original songs.
I had 323 songs.
Now I have 36.
There were several reasons why I dumped most of my songs.
1. Some were terrible.
2. I found around thirty songs that sounded alike.
3. Repitition in lyrics or melody, or structure, etc...
I bought a Korg D1200 about three weeks ago. I was disinchanted with the VS840GX and all it's hidden extras you needed to buy and fed up with recording on a computer.
After setting the D1200 up I jumped into the tutorial.
I found it very easy to follow and well laid out.
There is also a...
That was my guess, Green Hornet.
I appraciate the help.
Quit smoking? You gots to be kidding? Some times you crack me up, Lt.
Mine is used, Jblount.
Thanks for the help guys.
I don't know about no 50's Doo Whop group, MISTERQCUE, in the early 60's there was a song called Patches...
