    Alesis Studio 32 and Layla

You've got it right. I've got an Alesis Studio32 and Layla24 (used to have two, but I sold the one I never used). If you're anything like me then you'll grow to hate the Studio 32! It's already broke down on me once and the routing matrix on channel 8 doesn't work. Finding a place that would...

Ah! That makes 3 so far....(solidtube owners)

    Plug-in formats...

I've never really paid much mind, but I just don't understand all the different formats of plug-ins available today. It's bad enough that consumers have to be pitted in the Mac Vs Windows debacle when choosing audio tools, now there are numerous plug-in protocols. The one's I've found for Mac...

To Rode or not to Rode

I guess I'm the only one in these forums that owns an NT4. I like them. I personnally feel that they sound pretty close to the AKG 451 (having used both). True they have a limited use, but when I'm in a situation where I need stereo imaging and I don't have time to tinker with dual mic...

    SOLIDarityTUBE

Really? I've used it for close micing a male singer singing softly and I found it to be very delightful. The vocals just sink right into the mix so well. I've tried to get the same effect with other mics, but they come across as (for lack of a better term) "peppery" rather than smooth.

    SOLIDarityTUBE

Reading a few threads here and there I've come to the conclusion that I stand alone in Solidtube ownership (and if not, then people don't like talking about their solidtubes). I think it's a very nice mic despite AKG's reputation with their newer mics and for the price I paid for it I don't...

    Holy Moses!!! Lucky ME!

I would say an okay deal. Getting a (working) u87 for a thousand or under, that's holy grail.

    Which mic for Bass drum...

This makes me think again about the 421. It doesn't have the same frequency curve the D-112 has so the sound come across more dark. It doesn't reproduce the good ol' "click" the way a D-112 can. When working with country artists I've found the 421 to be a very desirable sound when in direct...

    Which mic for Bass drum...

Thanks! I think you're the first person who's welcomed me here. I may be mistaken though. Me brains gone potty! While I'm at it, does anyone own any d-series audix mics? I've got a DP2 pack and I have only used them once. I'm not really swooning over their performance, but then again the...

    Which mic for Bass drum...

The cardiod pattern of the RE-20 is very wide. It picks up more ride cymbal than it does actual floor tom half the time.

    U87

I don't agree with that statement. Success in the business has little to nothing to do with talent. That goes for producers the same as it does for artists. There are thousands of "hit making" producers who's sound is either cookie cutter or very limited when stretched beyond the common palette...

    Which mic for Bass drum...

A lot of people swear by the Sennheiser MD 421 for kick. I use a D-112, but have used a 421 before and must say that they do reproduce a kick drum quite well. Never use an RE-20 on a floor tom! Just thought I would throw that out there.

    Need cheap mic advice.

If the samson R21 mics are anything like the R11's then I would suggest getting them. R11's are surprisingly decent mics that I still use for some vocal stuff even. They are similar to the 57, except they are more midrangy and they don't produce the same harmonic undertones that the 57 does (and...

    Top 5 Worst Recorded/Engineered CD's of 2002

I really didn't buy any CD's last year either. The last CD that I bought and expected to be great but wasn't was Tool - Lateralus. The overall mix was okay, but each instrument lacked flair. Totally opposite of Aenima where each instrument shined through with true character and pressence. The...
