you sure you want to do this? Getting a crappy mixer and cheap tape machine isn't really going to make your digital recordings much different. Analog equipment takes upkeep and can be really wonky. If you want to get some Tape in the path why not mix to a 2 track reel to reel? Not saying you...

Is it worth it though? I usually use a d112 inside the drum. From what I understand you use the subkick along with a mic inside for attack.

Anybody ever used one of these? They look kind of cool.

I like the Lexicon Alex. You can get them for 50 bucks and they sound really good (and I have a pcm 80 and pcm 41).
