    fingerboard---rosewood or maple????

I've got a maple, and agree with those that said the finish is kinda 'sticky'. When I play my friends strat w/ rosewood, it's a bit smoother to play. That said, unless you're a thrasher or something, it really shouldn't matter. If you're able to play fast then you're able to play fast, on a...

    4050 vs. Sm7?

I can't compare, but I've used an sm7 for kick drums, and it certainly does the job. Also, if you're looking to sell that v67 let me know, and PM me!

    Audacity 1.2

I haven't personally used it yet, but it's suggested in my audio book, computer recording for dummies. the advice in the book is very solid, and lines up well with the class im taking in school (although the book isn't used in class, just outside reading of my own), so I have no reason to think...

Choosing the right strings so I won't bend the neck

Does the guitar have floyd rose trem? Are you just starting out? If you're just starting out, you might want to go with some lighter gauge strings until you work up some calluses. Otherwise, I'd say just go for the heavy gauge and change one string at a time. If the neck looks like its...

    lots of action...

Truthfully, as a guitar instructor I think it would be worth your time to learn how to do a setup like this. Have you broken a guitar in the past? It's not a steep learning curve, just requires a few types of screwdrivers. If you're concerned about it being anothers instrument, learn on your...

    drum recording eq

I'm not so sure I'd feel comfortable clipping expensive mics to a drumset. If you're spending more than $150 per mic (which you'll likely do) you may as well protect them by using a quailty stand. That said, I have no experience using those clips, just seems like a dangerous way of micing. To...

    Drum and Bass Softsynths

What would you guys suggest I use for realistic bass and drum sounds? I don't have a midi controller yet, but plan on getting a CME UF6. This would be my first soft synth purchase, and my music style is mainly rock/blues. Price is an issue, so the cheaper the better, but it's always nice if...

Anyone know how to play keyboard looking at the sheet music?

I'd argue that you only need to learn the 7 notes first. When reading music, it's only the white keys which are notated, augmented by a sharp or flat sign. If you know where the F lies in the treble cleff, it's pretty natural to play an F# even if you've only memorized where F is. If #'s and...

    Drum Machines and Zoom RT223

Anyone have experience with the Zoom RT223 drum machine? I'm looking for a way to do drums for my DAW, and am on a limited budget. Under $200 for sure. I'm looking for something to learn on, and makes sounds that don't sound like crap. I'm guessing there's something out there for under $200...

your pick for phones - M40fs, Senn 280, or Sony V600?

Not that I can compare, since the AT's are the only nice phones I've had, but I like them. They have a nice full response, and nothing sounds muddy, harsh, or overemphasized.

    Dont buy audio-technica phones

Consider me a happy ATH-m40fs user as well. They don't stay on my head very well, but if the trade off is a tighter fit, I'd rather go with the comfort they have. Machine made products by nature have bad eggs. Probably more so than hand crafted goods because there's less quality control...

I know close to nothing.. asking about digi 002r.. please help !!

what processor speed is your computer? The main problem I see with that setup is that it doesn't look like it has much room to grow. 512mb max on your ram might become limiting. What type of recording are you going to do? Do you use midi? Are you just recording band practice, putting...

    firepod HELP

I believe its a limit of 4, not 2 (unless I have the version that allows more, I've never tried more than 4 though). Regardless, I know its less than 8 on the limited version, its numbskullish for presonus to release that version with the firepod, but oh well.
