Yeah, I don't think you can do it directly within Acid. I think you're right. I think the only way would be to do just that and run audio out and back in to an audio track.

Nu metal blows and all the bands sound like extremely shitty Helmet ripoffs with lame rappers. Doom metal rules and is dominated by bands that play slow, detune, and have an extremely strong Sabbath influence. Black Metal is good too...big minor keyed classical influence...very fast as well...

Bingo, I was gonna say this. Zep 1 opens up with complete distortion. It's tape distortion though so it sounds pretty glorious. I've got all of them on old vinyl copies and yes, they sound incredibly good on that format.
