    Guys...need your help!

I doubt any of those will make a significant increase in sound quailty. What about spending your money on treating your room?

    I Need Help....Very Bad!!!!

I'm not experienced with your perticular mixer, but the most common way to set this up would be to run the stereo outs of your mixer into the inputs of your sound card, then run the outs of your sound card back into your mixer. Now bus the output of your soundcard to your control room outputs...

    recording upright bass

Basically, ur going to get all your boomy lows from the f-holes and more attack and string noise as you get further up the neck. The approach I would try, would be to mic both the f-hole and the neck, and then blend to taste. You said the bass sounds distant, but I would normally be even...

An all analogue mix, and an all digital mix...

Thanks for your oppinion. Yeah, the distorted vocals may be a bit too loud, but they are also my favourite part of the song so I might be a little biased towards them. I'm always really critical of myself, and these are the first two mixes im actually proud of. Anymore advice is appreciated...

Firepod / computer / other hardware

The only pres I have alot of experience with are Mackie VLZ and the ones in my firepod. I could definately notice an upgrade with the firepod pre's. They seem a bit clearer with more headroom.

Best mic's for miking up a drum set

The 414s were set up in cardiod, completely flat. Those mics tend to do some of the work for you. Postion them well, and they sound great on just about anything.

Best mic's for miking up a drum set

We mic'd up a smaller jazz style 4 piece kit the other day in the studio. We used 2 414's for overheads, 421's on the toms, a SM 57 on snare top, 441 snare bottom, and D112 on kick. Sounded pretty damn good to my ears, although tape does that right :P?

Hey Ram... Great tune, its a pretty impressive mix. U've got great ears. And it's very un-Wierd Al sounding :P

    m-audiophile 96khz versus 192 Khz

I don't understand why everyone jumps on the Nuendo download train.... I have Cubase LE and I'm quite sure I could make a much better mix on that then Nuendo. I mean how many bells and whistles does the typical home recorder need, especially with the abundance of free VSTs and the like.

    Consolidating audio in Cubase?

Yeah, thats what I ended up doing. I was just trying to find a command that would do it to all your tracks at once. No luck though. Thanks.

Newby, Suggestion about what buying for do the next...

Yes. A mixer will have a bunch of mic pre-amps in one unit. It is a good way to get lots of mic pre-amps for little money. You can also buy stand alone pre-amps. If you just plan to record one or two things at once, maybe stand alone pre-amps would do the trick for you. Any newer computer will...

    Consolidating audio in Cubase?

Hey, I know this isn't the cubase fourm, but theres a lot of people in here right now and I need an answer before tomorrow morning. I just recorded a tune at home in cubase, and tomorrow im going to bring it to the studio and mix it in pro tools. I know in protools you can consolidate your...

    Fattening up the Kick

Here's a cool trick.... On a seperate track create a tone generator that makes a very low tone, maybe around 80 Hz or so. Now put a noise gate on that track so that it just cuts out the tone. Now rout your kick track to the key input of your noise gate. What you are trying to do is have your...

Dynamic for soothing and scream vox?

I think most people would agree that the SM 7 is a great mic for this application. Is it better then a 57 or 58? No. A general thing to remember is that most mics aren't better just different. (don't start screaming into your ribbons or condensors please)

Please lend your ears to some Power Metal!

The vocals definately need to come down in the mix. Maybe add some reverb or a very slight delay to them. They are also very sibbilant but this might not be as apparent if they didn't jump out of the mix so much. Kick and snare definately louder too.
