For the mni-xlrs the local live engineers are using vandamme installation cable
1m lengths farnell codes:
385-5697 (black)
385-5703 (blue)

The installation cable is fairly stiff so if you need a more flexible cable have a look at
385-5958
The mini-xlr connectors are:

If you really want to make your own try using neutrik IDC connectors (solder free) - easy to assemble and repair on the road or even during a gig.

The cable used to make these is one of the worst I've seen, its highly microphonic, the shield isn't wrapped properly in many cases just runs down one side of the cable. There are very few twists per meter. The sheath is also reactive turning the copper in the cable black. It's thoroughly...
Those sssnake cables are really the bottom of the barrel, the thomann "cordial" cables are made with good quality cable and neutrik connectors, I have had no problems with any of them. Four of my cordial cables have seen live action for four years with no difficulties.
Too long, too much writing for m201, length suggests modular mic and as the clip is an AKG I reckon its...

Well a lot of companies have parts machined in china and assemble them in the USA, I guess differences in the tensioning of the film could have a large impact. Are the diaphragms glued and screwed or just screwed?
I have a 3035 which I like on vocals and close micing amps, don't like it on acoustic instruments or overhead duty -not a nice off axis response
I had two of these and was happy to let one go, if someone stole it I'd save up for an AT4040 or AT4047.
I've used M179 once at a friends and it...
Crikey I just did a search for completed listings on ebay and some of these have gone for as much as $300 - at that rate you could make a living out of buying & selling them.
I can understand them going for ver $100 because we're not all lucky enough to live near a GC - my nearest is 3000 miles...
Well I could probably record a cd with the carbon mic from a 1950s telephone and a dictaphone and get a couple of hundred fans, friends and family to buy a copy - they're kind of supportive that way. The difference here is that I would never be complacent enough to think anyone would ever listen...
Buy it used, it will never lose its value and will always be easy to sell. Its also a standard for voice over and excellent for vocals. EV parts and service department is excellent too.
:D
Half the people on this side of the pond call them dentures, half call them false teeth. The reason I mentioned it was that I was recording a voice over with a retired college professor and he was clicking like mad. It turned out to be his denture, a bit of fixodent solved that problem :)
NC3FX and NC3MX are the basic nickel plated xlrs others have IDC connections, screw locking, gold plated contacts, metal backshell, colour coding etc. etc.
redco looks reasonable, froogle turns up this which is marginally cheaper:
