Does anybody know how I could mix down to my iMac from a tascam 488 8-track anolog machine? Are there any wires or anything that could turn the audio out jack into something like a USB cable? And would I need special software. I'm pretty ignorant in the digital recording world. Any help...

I was trying to find out if there was a way I could mix the music I have on my Tascam 488 8-track down to my iMac. The iMac is actually the first model that came out, so it doesn't have a CDR-RW or anything. I don't think a sound card with the appropriate "jacks" or whatever can be put in it...

Thanks for the recomendation guys, but can I just hook stereo speakers into it, or can I mix with headphones(I know people say not to mix with head phones, but I wasn't sure if the same rules applied).

I haven't tried mixing down on VHS yet, but everybody talks about how great it is. - can I just hook up regular stereo speakers to the VCR or should I use something different. Should I leave it pluged into the TV or will that even work? - just wondering.

I have a Tascam 488 8-track - I'm trying to figure out if it is wiser to let the mic feed more through the trim(the very top knob) or if I should let the fader at the bottom give the mic more input to the track. I hope this makes sence. One more thing - Track 1 is going faulty or something...
