It's not an issue with Cakewalk.
I don't use a Soundblaster, but this issue comes up all the time. There's a setting in your Soundblaster control panel that needs changing. I believe it's under "recording source" you have to check "What U Hear".
Good luck.

My first thought at that price point would be a Radium 61. It has a fair number of assignable controllers.
The Evolution series have better/more MIDI controllers, but I don't like the feel of the keyboard itself.
It all depends on what is most important to you.
A note of clarification-
Both...
Well, I'm VERY unqualified to respond to this, but, and someone with real knowledge please help me out, the idea of bi-amplification is that by dividing the frequency spectrum into two bands and using a separate amplifier for each, you can then design each amplifier to work specifically on those...
I don't know what your budget is, but before making a decision, I would encourage you to look at the Akai DPS24. I recently got one and it's probably the best All-In-One out there (I know some Roland VS users might disagree). Lots of inputs, excellent mic-pres, very good converters, extremely...
These questions are impossible to answer. If there was a valid answer, then there would be only one synth manufactured and we would all use it. "Best" is a meaningless term in regards to music. It's like asking a painter what the "best" color is. It's subjective. Synths are tools. They are all...
Ssscientist-
You can order it online for in store pick-up. That's what I did. I thought about having it shipped, but that made it almost $10.00!!! Whew! Too rich for my blood! :p
J&R Computer also lists for the same price and charges a little less for shipping.

It drives me CRAZY! And I've owned a lot of products from them over the years. Starting with a Juno 60 and its useless optional 4 track sequencer, the JSQ60, I think it was. 4 tracks? Technically, yes (and this is the kind of thing that they do all the time), but they weren't independent tracks...
Atterion-
I wanted to use their Audio Arp program, but I could never get it to work. It's been a while so I don't exactly remember the problem. I think it just wouldn't do anything as I recall. Did you have any problems getting it to work initially?
Ted
PS- I was looking at your profile and...
Before I drop that kind of money ;), tell me how you use it and why you think it's so awesome.
I know it's only $4.00, but if I ship it, it comes to almost $10.00 and if I decide to go pick it up, it's a couple hours and a few gallons of gas spent. You can see how it all begins to add up...
I don't know anything about the VR760 really so I can't answer your question directly. Personally, I've boycotted Roland products because I've never bought one that isn't missing some obvious feature that would have been simple to implement but was inexplicably left off. That reason and their...
Are you a current user?
They just ended a repeat of their successful upgrade to SONAR 4 and get Project 5 for $99.00 offer. They also offered Project 5 and Kinetic for $149.00.
Currently, for upgrader's they are offering the Cakewalk Professional Pack $349.00 for users of SONAR 3.
Their...
Found a good price on Alesis Ion, but wondering if it's worth adding to the arsenal. I have a good selection of boards already- Supernova II and a Darkstar XPII for analog, KARMA, JV1010, Motif Rack, Proteus 2500, Kawai K2000R, softsynths, etc.
I've looked at them in the store and have never...
heheheheh...
If you only knew what you're getting yourself into...;)
You have unleashed the beast and it will consume you and all those around you!
(But you'll have a lot of fun in the meantime!:) )

I'm with Atterion. Of the four, the Radium offers the most controllers and, believe me, you're going to be glad you have them if you're working with softsynths. It gets very frustrating to have to continually stop playing to adjust a parameter with the mouse or keyboard.
I don't use Protools...
Atterion-
Yes! I made the jump last week. I took advantage of their bundle upgrade offer with Project 5 and Kinetic.
I have installed it, but really haven't had a chance to explore it at all yet. I'm not expecting a dramatic difference. Most of the improvements seem to be in the realm of...
I know that there are many people using Cubase, but I've always been a Cakewalk devotee. From what I gather, people often seem frustrated with Steinberg's customer service.
For your more basic needs, look at Cakewalk Home Studio. Reasonably priced, and it offers an upgrade path to SONAR if you...
A MIDI enabled soundcard is one way to produce MIDI sounds, but, most of the time, not a very good one. Most of the MIDI synths included on soundcards are of pretty poor quality.
What software are you using on your computer? Most of the recording programs on the market support some kind of...
The Radium 61 is $199.00, I believe. But, I'm not sure why you're asking for advice since it sounds as if you have already made up your mind. What I don't like about the 61ES is that it has a very limited amount of controllers on it and you're going to find them very handy to have later on...
Respectfully, I think that's not an entirely accurate assessment.
Yes, a DAW can be very powerful and functional approach to recording, but there are advantages and plusses for all-in-ones as well.
With the computer and sound card he currently has, it's not going to be possible to get good...
The simple answer to your question is "Yes, it is possible."
But all the other factors mentioned are as important or more important than your (recording) equipment. ;) As has been oft pointed out, Sir George Martin got a lot of mileage out of a 4 track.
If you want to get an all-in-one, I...
