    MSH-2 Evaluation

I'll try and get one up this weekend. I'm switching web servers, so we'll see how that goes.

    Classic GC

Most of them don't know what in the hell they're talking about, BUT it pays to get chummy with one of them so they'll get you a good deal on a piece you know you want.

    MSH-2 Evaluation

I don't know how different the MSH-1 is from the MSH-2, but I just recorded some of the best drums I've ever recorded with the MSH-1 as a mono overhead. Getting a pair of these mics is the no-est of no-brainers.

I want to record an amp

My AEA R92 is an absolute revelation on amp. If electric guitar is your main instrument, I'd consider saving up for a nice ribbon.

True, but I still miss it. I'll be getting a Shinybox 23 first chance I get.

    new mic...

I definitely would not recommend a dynamic as your main mic for acoustic.

Will constant clipping cause permanent damage?

    I think it's just you.

    Nady RSM-4

The RSM-2 is a great mic. I only sold mine to pay for an AEA R92, which is better, which makes sense sense it's at least 4X more expensive.

    Kick Drum Miking Question

Getting an Audix D6 for kick has vastly improved my recordings, just by itself. IMO, a good kick mic is an excellent bang for your recording buck.

    Blue Microphones

I liked my Baby Bottle before I sold it to get my U195. I thought it was fairly smooth and pretty flat and versatile, actually. The only problem with it was that it was too damn hot for loud sources. Anyway, you must not have done too much of a search if you think this site doesn't have any...

    MSH-1 Omni SDC

I got my pair, and I like them! Mic bargain of the year!

    Boutique Preamp into USB interface?

Does the MobilePre have a line in that bypasses the built-in pres? If so, I'd say the MobilePre is not so bad as to negate, or even significantly diminish, the jump in quality you would get going to an upscale pre. If not, get an interface that has line ins that don't put the signal through a...

i have $250 ... mic or mic pre?

Look into the ADK Vienna and Hamburg or the Audio-Technica 4040. I haven't used the ADKs, but I've heard they're one of the best values in that price range, and the 4040 sounds nice on everything I've tried it on so far

Does anyone know if the NT1-A is any better than the original, nearly-universally-panned NT1?

That looks a lot like the Kel Audio HM-1.

Lesser of 2 evils...DMP3 or Presonus Blue Tube

When I switched from the Blue Tube to the DMP3, it was quite nice. The DMP3 is cleaner and more detailed where the presonus was a lot more dull, at least in my experience. I really like the presonus as a bass DI, though.

Anyone use the Studio Projects xlr cable?

The DMP3 is noticeably better than the behringer mixers. I mean, it stands to reason. The DMP3 is $75 per pre and the mixer is, what, probably $20?

FS: SM58, Nady RSM2, CAD M-37, Digitech Distortion Factory Pedal

I'll go down to $105 on the Nady and $70 on the CAD.

I think mine's changed a lot since my last update. I'm reducing the number of cheaper mics that I don't use or need that much, and replacing them with fewer higher quality pieces: Soundelux U195 AEA R92 (2) Josephson C42 (2) Oktava MC-012 Audio-Technica 4040 Shure SM7 Audix D6 Audix i5 It's...
