    Suggest a preamp from this list . . .

I think the Meek box is a good value. The comp's pretty cool and the pre and EQ are very usable. The DMP3's a nice box too though. Tons of clean gain for the price.

    Suggest a mic from this list . . .

If you're only recording vocals, I'd say get the v69. Some respected folks give it good marks on vocals.

    Ribbon mic users...

If you're on a budget, the DMP3 is a great little preamp and has enough gain to drive a ribbon.

    Ribbon mic users...

If you're using it on loud sources like guitar amp and horns, I think 55 db would be enough. If you're trying to do vocals and distant mic'ing of acoustic instruments, I think you'd need 65-70.

    its good to be PRE-PAIRED

If you know how to solder, I'd recommend the Seventh Circle Audio preamps. If you build them yourself they can come as cheap as $149 per channel. You could have a pair of API style pres, a pair of Neve style pres, and a quad of Millenia style pres for around $2200. The get nothing but rave...

    next logical choice?

Here's another thread about the ThreeQ. The first 6 or 7 posts are pretty useful and confirm what I said in my last post: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=148108&highlight=Joe+Meek+ThreeQ

    next logical choice?

The newest Joe Meek ThreeQ is the best value in a channel in your price range by far. The compressor is where the color comes in, so if you don't use it, you'll have quite a clean little preamp (do a search in this forum if you don't believe me). It's very similar to the preamp in the more...

    350-400 Microhphone..Any Suggestions?

Yeah, no problem. I second the SM7 recommendation. It's excellent on vocals, amps, and snare.

    The Baby Bottle's $600, though.

    Cheapie over-heads

Some folks like the SP B1 for cheap. I like the Oktava MC012 if you can find it for cheap. I know that some are Russian and some Chinese these days, and I only have experience with the Russian, but I think they're great on OH.

About to pull the trigger on the Great River ME-1NV

I think you can use a universal rack tray with a screw. I don't think you should have to tape it. I could be wrong about that though.

About to pull the trigger on the Great River ME-1NV

DO IT!! Anywhere you buy is just as good as anyplace else, I think. I guess Mercenary might be the best place (though I'm not a big fan of Fletcher) because they double the warranty.

    Delta 44 / Shure SM 57

Since you're working in Audition, I would say a pre is better. On your budget, get an Audiobuddy.

    What does Autotune sound like?

I actually end up using it more on strings than anything else, and then just in a very limited way, as mentioned above.

Thanks! It's a song by a band called the Microphones. You should look into them if you liked the song.
