    Harmonica keys

While there are no set in stone rules, for most of the common blues/rock style harmonica you're going to want to play in what's called second position (or "cross harp"), which puts you in a mixolydian mode. In effect, a C harp would be used for playing in the key of G as bigtom said.... A ten...

Anyone know of tubes? Zaerix, Haltron..

Cool bananas! Yeah, it's definitely a Tungsram then, made in Hungary. That's a cool score, congrats! ;)

Anyone know of tubes? Zaerix, Haltron..

Your Zaerix labelled tube is an RFT, manufactured in the former East Germany. I can't 100% tell from the pic, but the Haltron labelled tube looks to be a Tungsram. Can you tell me, is there a small medal square (or diamond) shaped plate attached to the side of the rod that holds up the getter...

    Best Mic under $150

Oh boy... I didn't see "it all depends on situation/location/recording source/signal chain" as an option, so I didn't vote. Seriously, without context, this poll is like comparing apples to oranges. As it stands it's basically just a meaningless list.

    Fifty dollar mics

Larry, If you check out the data sheet for the 631 on that Coutant page, there's a schematic for the mic at the bottom of the last page where you can see that the low impedence version is the same as the high impedence version, except without the transformer. If you wanted to be crafty you...

    Fifty dollar mics

Cool bananas! Yeah, their construction is a bit lighter than some of their siblings, but they are probably sturdier than they might seem. Mine have survived a few decent drops and to no ill effect. Certainly, for the price you paid you can't go wrong. I haven't plugged mine in in ages... I'll...

    Tascam M-___ Story...

I kinda doubt the legs of both the resistor and the cap would fit in the one PCB hole. The caps were probably added as an afterthought, after the PCB had been made. I don't think these should be too much of a problem... I mean, caps get soldered directly to the trace side of PCBs all the time...

    Fifty dollar mics

I have a pair of those AKG D120Es, except mine need new foam windscreen inserts as the foam of the old ones has disintigrated with age. Pretty sure these were low-endish mics on the AKG spectrum, intended for "general" use (PA, speech, performance, etc.). Still, it's another flavour to have in...

    please help.sound card or interface?

Do you mean a firewire interface versus a PCI soundcard? You might also wanna try a search... There should be heaps of info on this forum on this very topic.

Tascam 238 3 song demo "The Rondos"

Wow, kudos to you! Great songs, and it's very well mixed too... everything just sits "right". Great job! I think the cassette format really suits this style of music.

Interesting Neve mixdown/mastering unit on ebay

:D Haha, nah, unfortunately not. It went beyond my budget pretty quickly... you know, being a poor student and all... I just kinda hit the watch button when I first saw it and left it at that. Didn't really come back to it until after it was finished, when I found it again while deleting the...

Interesting Neve mixdown/mastering unit on ebay

It's finished now, but I thought this was pretty interesting as you don't see much of this stuff for sale in our neck of the woods. Don't really have anything to add. Just throwing it out there for general interest really...

Opinions of the MOD'ED w/Burr Brown opamps Behringer t-2channel mic preamp

One thing's for sure, there's a lot of bullshit going on in that auction blurb... A gain increase of 30%? Err... simply changing the opamp won't cause a gain increase, not like that anyway. That's reliant on the circuitry around the opamp, and unless some of that has been altered too, then I'm...

Anyone got a Tascam 244 they wanna part with?

Does anyone know how the front end (preamps, EQ, etc.) compare on the 244 and 246? Are they identical or is one somehow superior to the other?

    Tape thicknesses?

Thanks for the replies guys. The machine is question is also a Watkins Copicat, and it turns out it wants "lubricated tape". I see plenty of auctions on ebay for 1/4 inch Scotch/3M stuff that's labelled on the packaging as "Silicon Lubricated". Any ideas if this is going down the right path?
