if you can, you might want to return those rokits, if you are doing hip-hop they are probably not going to give you the bass response that you need. save up a little more and get the rokit 8's. Also, +1 for getting Reason, the best beat-making program IMHO
im guessing GB is garageband, which I am not familiar with so I don't know if it has a multiband compressor. Just google it and read what it does, get one and play around with it and see how it affects the sound. If you have a regular compressor, play around with that first to get an idea of how...
You can get good results in an untreated room and you should focus on getting a good recording before you go adding effects. How are you mic'ing him? Does the guitar have fresh strings? How many mics are you using? Are you recording vocals separately from the guitar? I would say use 3 mics, 1 to...
Definitely go back and try to figure it out. I use FL studio 8 but NEVER to make beats, when it comes to beats, it's all Reason. I use FL for tracking and anything that deals with audio clips, I like the weird way FL works compared to other DAWs but as far as midi is concerned Reason takes the...
indeed, you should be able to just slide the bass clip over in the timeline. Be sure to zoom in really close though because it might look like its on time, but it could still be just a little off.
just sample songs you like that aren't dance songs and make your own beats. If you slice songs up enough to where you can't tell what the original source is then I don't think it's copyright infringement. You've probably already got a ton to choose from on your computer.
thanks for the love guys, I just put up like 10 more beats and 3 more raps, one of which I did for a client this weekend, let me know what you think of them. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=1064312
guru, glad you appreciate the different flavor. I just did a song for a client...
I'm listening on headphones so I don't know really, but the beat seems a little quiet. The vocals sound well-mixed during the hook but maybe a little too much delay on the verse. The last hook comes in a little weird too cuz he says something on the verse track, but it sounds like it needs to be...
you could get an mpc and you could make beats with it, but instead I would recommend a midi keyboard/control surface you will have more possibilities with it. Aside from that, all you need is a program. i use and love propellerhead Reason. you can get reason and a nice keyboard for well under 2k
I assume you have a studio, but is it up to par with the studios in your town? No reputable client is going to go for a spare bedroom studio, even if it is free. If you want work like that it might be better to go up to one of those studios in your town and try to get a job or internship there...
not to steal the thread, but can a studio be too dry? my studio is in the attic/upstairs of my house and it tends to get pretty warm and dry up there and it has window AC units, should I use a humidifier?
