oh.. i think i mustve forgotten to answer that part of the question... as far as "rolling off the lows" does that mean just generally EQ'ing them down? so that the guitars have a low end, just not the SAME low end as the bass? that's not something i really made a habit of doing, BUT i can't say...

well, i really don't do much to the track after it's mixed down... which i've been thinking lately might be a big part of my problem... my typical ritual for a fresh mix-down is: cut the ends off... so there's no empty space before and after the track... and then i run either waves...
