I think this would depend on what the synth is being used as. Is the synth your low end? what kind of sounds do you use from it? Layer your patches, if you find a combo you like that would thiken the sound

You missed the part in my post about testing the new parts. So the only difference would be the diaphragm. But again I am not sure how big the differences are diaphragm to diaphragm. I would think that that would be the part they would try to keep exact but who knows what goes on sometimes...

so the differences in the mics comes from imperfections in the diaphragm?

I always see pictures of famous singers in the studio with the mic upside down and above the singer. Why do they put it above the singer? and is the only reason it is upside down to keep the tube from burning up the diaphram or is there some sound difference?

I heard this but don't know if its true but I will throw it out there. When Chris Cornel was recording vocals for Audioslaves album he kept blowing out condenser mics because his voice is just crazy powerful, after a few mics were lost they handed him a SM58 and told him to go at it.
