    Best Value Guitar Amps

Hi there, I'm slowly building up my studio equipment and what I really need is a guitar amp. It needs to be suitable for recording and suitable for small gigs should the need arise. From what I read many moons ago when I last though about getting a guitar amp, 60w is minimum I'm looking for...

Complete Newbie new to recording drums

I realise you don't want to spend bags of cash, but a FP-10 aka the presonus Firepod is an 8 channel firewire interface which I've just invested in and it kicks ass. You can get it, and similar from Thomann.de There will probably be a 4 channel one too.

    Mixing and Editing Drums

Cheers for the info guys, I've been playing around and the only thing that is really bothering me is the snare has too much hi hat bleed in it, but with your help I should be able to reduce this. The only other problem I have is listening to the song. Through my expensive headphones it sounds...

    Mixing and Editing Drums

I've finally got a basic recording set up sorted and recorded some drum tracks and they are ready to be edited in Cubase. I've played around with panning and a bit of compression, but nothing serious. I was wondering what you guys tend to once you've got the recording done, are their any...

How many drum mics do you record with

I use 7 mics, all cheap t-bone ones and I'm both poor and new to recording. I think the overheads have come out suprisingly well really, it's just the snare that is really suffering.

    Panning, volume and EQing

Thanks very much, that was really helpful. Just one thing, in reference to recording each drum seperately, that was using a keyboard with a drum kit setting on it. I've recorded a proper kit once (I'm moving soon so it's been packed) and it was using 5 mics and they were going onto Cubase as...

    "travel" kit aquarian head selection

I gotta say, the kit looks very nice. Anyway, not sure if there was a question in your post, but I know Remo do 18" bass drum heads so you shouldn't have to use a tom head. Enjoy your kit mate.

    starting up

I'm not an expert on soundcards (or anything for that matter), but if you want to record a band (lets say guitar, bass, drums and vox) and you want to get a relatively good sound, have each instrument recorded clearly and be able to edit them as best you can, then I honestly don't think you'll...

Are some drums just not tunable?

It's frustrates me that you have all these technically amazing musicians, be it guitar, drums, bass anything; and they play some of the most technically impressive and crazy shit on the most elaborate and expensive equipment you can find which allows the sales people to go "You want to sound...

    Panning, volume and EQing

I'm an experienced gigging drummer, starting up a punk band with similar experienced friends. Although I've not got my ideal home studio set up at the moment, I'm recording rough demos of songs as we write them, and using these rough demos to work on my mixing techniques. I receintly recorded...

Are some drums just not tunable?

Maybe I'm just too unprofessional about my drumming endevors, but surely the kit doesn't need to be tuned to particular notes for the sake of the song. I'm not having a go, it's just I presumed you were tuning it to a particular note so that you get a good sounding tom, but reading through the...

Are some drums just not tunable?

Is that the kit with the 18" kick? If it is, my dad bought that and I borrowed it off him while I was at uni as it fit better into smaller space. With some O rings he managed to get an awesome sound out of it, even with the heads it came with. I would have put some Remos on it myself, but hey...

    Recording Vocals

Thanks, just for the record, it wasn't actually my voice I was recording, and I was refering to it in the mix. Trying to get the very clearest, crispest vocal sound basically. I tried adding reverb but I couldn't get it sounding right. I was basically looking for tricks of the trade...

I think this is my best drum sound yet.

I'll lay off micing the hats, it'll save me money!

    Recording Vocals

Brilliant cheers, next time I record some vox I'll give it a go.

I think this is my best drum sound yet.

Yeah they are. One more question, if I want to mic the hi-hat what sort of mic should I use?

I think this is my best drum sound yet.

Cheers mate, i'll check out youtube now. EDIT: Just had a look on youtube and noticed that they were using quite small mics. I've got two large diaghram condenser mics (I think), would it still be good to use the recorderman method? PS: Sorry for hijacking the thread a bit.

    Recording Vocals

I was just wondering if there are any Dos and Don'ts to recording vocals? I've recorded some for a song and I basically went through all the inserts in Cubase to see how I could improve them and then did a little bit of EQing to try and get the best sound I could, but I'm not 100% happy with...

I think this is my best drum sound yet.

Excuse my ignorance, but what do you mean by "recorder man style"? Also did you mic the hats, or were they picked up through the Overheads? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm working on drum recordings, and if I could get that level of recording I'd be chuffed. Once I have some money I...

    Getting the right bass sound

Brilliant, thanks. I'll give that a go later.
