    Guitar Center v. Elixir

Dude, that plastic dull tone will last 10 times longer than normal strings... That's worth an extra $20, no?? :D

New Line 6 Spider III Samples

I picked up the little Spider III 15 watt dillio last weekend. Very fun little practice amp and the clean channel sounds really good. Would I record with it? Probably not. Would I play live with it? Definetly not. Would I recommend it highly as a pratice amp, hell yes!!

Tube Amp vs. Line 6 Toneport

Understood, and if it was my money I was paying you to record my band I would EXPECT you to be a snob. If you record at home for fun I think a Toneport, sound card or tape deck is fine. As long as you like the way it sounds who cares!!

    New Axe to Hot Rod

That seems to be the theory, perhaps less pieces for the body as well. If you paint a guitar black you can use a 3 piece body, the sunburst would look stupid with 3 joined pieces. This was mine, before the SD JB Mod...

    New Axe to Hot Rod

Yeah, I checked the area51. Most who own all 3 colors swear the sunburst is the best?? Not sure how they know this, but that was the opinion of a few members. Perhaps the better wood is used on the suburst models? In any event I bought a sunburst and love the little bastard!! I did drop a SD JB...

Tube Amp vs. Line 6 Toneport

Wasn't directed toward you at all. Just pointing out the fact that a few thought it was a modeller until after it was revealed. I wasn't calling anyone out as you put it. Just making fun of tone snobs who think it's necessary to mic a Mesa full stack to record a riff that only you and your...

Guitar/bassists... check out this cheap easy upgrade...

Hmm, I was reading about the redeemer and saw this closing statement: Creation Audio Labs highly recommends the use of GEORGE L’S high quality cable throughout the signal chain for the best in tone preservation Perhaps they own stock in George L??

    New Axe to Hot Rod

If you like that one, try a Squire 51. They are great guitars to mod and for $149 new you can't go wrong. I love mine and play it more than my other guitars. Here is one I just did a pickguard for recently: http://www.woodguarden.com/wst_page9.php?idx=1&file=images/frettech2.jpg&&ID2=YygvcY...

Tube Amp vs. Line 6 Toneport

It's funny but before HangDawg exposed the recording method everyone was saying it was a modeller. As soon as he says it's not everyone says "I wouldn't have guessed a modeller"... The bottom line of the deal is this, unless you are recording a CD with hopes of getting signed to a label, who...

    Mexican Telecasters versus Squire Telecasters

I personally dig the Squier's. I would find one that plays really nice and have it setup by a pro. It will play as good as any MIM Tele. I have a Squier 51 that plays better than an American Tele I owned. It's all about the setup!!

    Kerry King EMG pickups

I had this set, they are nice. I prefer the Gibson Tony Iommi over the EMG sound.. The EMG's are tight and clean for recording, but just a touch sterile sounding. EMG's perform best with a high gain tube amp cranked.

    Chambering a body

Possibly, but once covered with a pickguard which I make from wood, does that not form a chamber??

    Chambering a body

I have a project guitar and I was thinking about creating some chambers in the body. The body is Basswood, would this lend itself to chambers well, or is Mahogany prefered? The guitar has a large pickguard and I plan chamber out areas under the pickguard and cut some fancy f-holes in the...

Choosing a guitar to get for my birthday

Epiphones are awesome. My favorite guitar is the G-400. I have had mine for years and still find it to be the best all around guitar I have ever owned.
