    Vocal Comping

Wow. I try to get the vocalist to do it till it's right. If they just aren't getting it after a while, I'll usually suggest coming back on a different day. Once they are getting frustrated, it rarely gets better.

help with deep vocals KSM32 and AT4050

Hmmm. I wouldn't blame that on the mic. A Noisy preamp is at fault there. I'm generally at 40-50db of gain for Vox with an SM7, so you shouldn't need a whole lot more than that, but it does need to be clean gain.

Mixing for Dummies (or, me). Quick step by step?

LOL. You must be the guitarist/vocalist, right? You mixed the stuff on tragicwaste.net?

They generally need a lot of gain as well.....

    kick drum: replacement, or eq?

LOL. This thread was sure good for a laugh. @Jimmys69. It not only amazes me that most drummers can't tune a kit, but most drummers can't keep time worth a crap either. I see nothing wrong with using a sample. Like you said, you can take the WORST kick drum track and make it PERFECT in about...

help with deep vocals KSM32 and AT4050

I never noticed it too be all that noisy - maybe with a poor preamp because it does require a fair amount of gain. Either way, it's not noisy enough to keep Thriller from being the best selling album of all time. Not bad creds......

help with deep vocals KSM32 and AT4050

Again, can't go wrong with an SM7. The samples on Gearslutz didn't seem too bad, but didn't seem particularly deep either. You'd get a lot less harsh top, plus the prox effect would add some weight - if that's what you're looking for.

    Compression 120Hz and under ???

Maybe my English isn't so good, but he seems to be saying exactly what I said?

help with deep vocals KSM32 and AT4050

You can upload samples to lightningmp3.com I am not too familiar with the 4050, but I've used a ksm32 a bit. Not a huge fan, but don't remember it being to bright. If you're having troubles with harshness on the top end, an SM7 is usually a good bet.

    Compressor ratio question

    You sure it's not 4.0:1?

    Compression 120Hz and under ???

I always thought 8:1 meant for every 8 decibels you go over the threshold, it will compress it to one decibel over the threshold. Maybe not?

freezing and bouncing tracks, do what?

Sure you can. I don't remember off the top of my head, but when you bounce, it gives you the option to keep the old tracks, and even if you don't keep them, they should still be in the audio pool (unless you dump that, but with computers these days I NEVER do that. Haven't needed to in ages.

    How often do you re-amp?

I do it ALL the time. Seems like the crappier the guitar tone, the more the guitarist is tied to "his tone". Same with drummers and metronomes - the ones that need it the most are most objectionable to it....... For guitarists, I just wait till they leave and reamp thru a real amp.

freezing and bouncing tracks, do what?

You should be able to undo a bounce. (should be an option when bouncing.) At least in Cubase you can, I think all DAW's have this functionality.

    Major Problem Need Help!!!

His mix is much better balanced. Guitar tone is a lot better, but could still be improved. You can hear the bass. I think he's got the vox set back too far, and the cymbals are almost non-existent. He may have just programmed the drums though. That may explain the radical difference in...

    Major Problem Need Help!!!

Checked out that tune on Myspace - youtube just kills audio most of the time. That mix is much better than your current one, but it's got issues as well. The best thing about it is the performance. The timing is WAY better than what you're working with. Can you beat it? Hard to say. It's...

    Major Problem Need Help!!!

I'd say you're at 4-5, but without vocals, it's hard to say. I think once vox is added, the drums will be all but gone. I'll give you my opinions on the mix - guitars are too up front as compared to the drums. Guitars are in your face, but the drums sound like they are down the hall...

    Major Problem Need Help!!!

The one I see up there has been up for 9 hours. It pumps on Every single kick, and stays engaged through the double-kick sections. Sounds really bad IMHO. Also, if that wav form is accurate, you have it set kinda funny. Not sure how you're getting that weirdness. If that's the newest mix...
