Homestudio 2K4, EQ and compression plugins?

Are there any non-destructive EQ or compressor plugins for Cakewalk Homestudio 2004? If not, are there any for the Cubase SE which comes with the stock Firepod?

Hypercardioids and supercardioids, $150 and under

Mixsit, a soundman once told me someone's bleed is someone else's ambience. :) With the 57's, and the guitar cabs next to each other with nothing in between, hard panning the guitars R and L, and set for about -6dB into Homestudio, the other channel is usually running about -12dB. If I can...

Hypercardioids and supercardioids, $150 and under

I'm thinking about picking up a couple hypercardioid or supercardioid mics at the end of the year to help out with isolation for recording my band in the basement. We put out around 112-116dB. Right now I'm using AKG hypercardioids on the kit, 57's on the guitar cabs, a noname dynamic on the...

Bad to have resonator head hoops off?

If a drum is out of round on one side and you stick a new hoop on it, it's back in round, no? Damage to the bearing edge should be visible with the hoop off, right? Anything specific to look for?

Bad to have resonator head hoops off?

Is it bad to have the resonator head hoops and tension rods off of drums for extended periods? What kinds of problems can that cause, if any? And how do you find out if there are problems from it? There's a used kit locally w/ the lower heads/hoops and BD resonator headhoop off and I'd like...

App for triggering wavs with MIDI

I'd like to take a set of wav samples and trigger them by using a MIDI grid in Cakewalk Home Studio 2004 as a DXi or VST. Something like Battery. What other apps do that sort of thing? What's the best bang for the buck?

    "shimmy" on cymbals with SM57

Just one mic at a time.

    "shimmy" on cymbals with SM57

I tried the 57 on axis under the dome on a small stand under the cymbal. Still about 3-4 ft away, and that definitely reduced the shimmying sound, although it was still there...also tried an MXL990 condenser a few feet away and that helped a bit more. But I also listened closely for that...

    CWHS2K4: triggering audio samples

Do you need something other than CWHS to run the midi signals into to trigger the wav files? Are there software apps for that? Are there freeware/ shareware apps for that? Seems like I have a copy of LDB laying around somewhere...

    "shimmy" on cymbals with SM57

I had it aimed about halfway between the dome and the edge, at a 45 degree angle, about 2-3 ft away, up to about 5-6 ft with the gain turned up.

    CWHS2K4: triggering audio samples

That looks like a set of instructions for taking a drum loop and converting the timing of those hits into sounds which are already in the MIDI app. True? I am trying to do the opposite: I have wav files I'd like to trigger with CWHS's MIDI functions.

    "shimmy" on cymbals with SM57

I sampled a friend's kit recently. Mic'd with SM57. The drums and short cymbal sounds (hat click, tight hat, ride dome) came out great. The long cymbal sounds (loose hat, crash, ride...body?, and ride hit like a crash) have a good sound on the attack, but as they fade out they "shimmy" like a...

    CWHS2K4: triggering audio samples

I sampled a friend's drum kit and I want to trigger those sounds with some kind of drum map/ MIDI sequencer/ beat grid. Drum map manager looks like it is meant to switch around MIDI sounds and not wav files. How do I stick wav files on a grid with Cakewalk Home Studio 2004?

    Improving basement soundproofing

Took some dB readings for my basement, inside and out. 20W amp turned up halfway, running through a 412, feeding back at a high-mid to high frequency, ~110dB (!) Outside the window about 5' away, ~75dB Neighbor's place is about 15' away across our shared driveway cool biased 100W amp turned up...

    Soundproofing windows

Empirically! The double paned glass doesn't do much in that configuration, it acts more like a single pane of glass with the total mass of both panes. That was in one of Quirt's papers on the NRC site, it may be the one above or his 1981 paper. I saw some numbers for increasing the distance...

    Soundproofing windows

The Canadians have an interesting study on window sound transmission: http://irc.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/cbd/cbd240e.html Figure 2 suggests that sealed double pane 1/4" (6mm) windows with the panes spaced 3" (75mm) apart is about as efficient as you'll get, at STC 45. Plexiglass behaves about the same...

The real white acoustic panel thread

I'd take better pics if I could, but my camera is old and has trouble with in-focus closeup shots of small areas.... The front face did not peel off very easily, it was well-attached to the material and took some of the material with it. Sounds like they may be paper. :( But at least I'll be...

The real white acoustic panel thread

Here's a pic of each kind I have. One has some wood planking glued onto it, but you can see a bit of the fibers in the pic, the other has a whitish covering to it which was not as easy as I thought it would be to tear off the corner.

The real white acoustic panel thread

Does it look like the looser batt insulation fiberglass, or does it look denser than that? It looks like I have two kinds of tiles, both of which look "fibrous" and could be paper based or fiberglass based.

    Explorer

ibanezrocks hit it where the explorer's buttons are. My hamer standard explorer has the rear button above the midway mark which seems to make it balance better and not rock forward when you play. http://www.samash.com/images/items/HSTDFCSXX.jpg
