Band songwriting, who writes your songs. . .

    1. Try to teach him theory. 2. Support his enthusiasm, give him guidance. 3. BE HONEST WITH HIM. 4. Remember that writers develop too, his skills will develop in time. and last 5. BE HONEST WITH HIM. :-D

    critique my presskit plz

Yeah man, go ahead and use it. Just hit me with a rep point or something :D I'd like a credit and maybe a link if I had a site to promote, but I don't at the moment, so fuck it. About the site, it seems pretty groovy all around. Few ideas: 1. I would remove the "Flyers page: all scanned...

Anyone ever use this? Hear about it?

Jamorama I just found this through an ad banner. I'm not sure if it really says anything groundbreaking. I signed up for the free email lessons - using my already spam bogged account. Anyone ever use this or anything similar? I'm rather interested in guitar courses because I do rather well...

    Problems with vocal range

I have heard that range can decrease with age if it is not exercised, ie if one does not sing in the upper part of their range they can lose the ability to do so. Much like muscular strength and flexibility.

Tips on writing guitar parts to a song?

When you say that you finished a song, what's finished? Lyrics? Chord progression? I'm just not clear about what part of the process you're at, and thus need help with.

    Worst Singer EVER

I disagree about Dylan. His voice certainly isn't the sweetest sound in the world. Nonetheless, he has good pitch and consistent (albeit debateably good) tone. This conversation seems to be more about which vocalist's style everyone favors least. To answer that: the guy from Dashboard Confessional

    critique my presskit plz

I would remove the "Online Press Kit" at the top. I'm assuming anyone looking at this clicked a link explaining it was a press kit. At the very least I'd remove "Online," anyone looking realizes its a web-page. I would remove the "etc" and make a few other subtle changes, here's an idea...

Best Acoustic guitar for around $300 ?

I bought my ibanez AEL-20 for $350. The same model in a jet black finish (mine is transparent red) would have been $300. The natural sound of it is just ok, but it does sound rather nice plugged in. I did get it at a mom and pop shop with typically good prices, so you may have to shop around to...

CD distribution, cost to the store

How do distribution deals work for a record store? What I mean is, what are the minimums that a record store needs to order from a distributor? How does a store establish an account with a distributor? How much do CD's cost in relation to retail? I'm rather thinking of opening a store, curious...

What's your favorite "bridge" in a song?

The first things that came to my head upon reading bridge were Better Than Ezra's "Desperately Wanting" and Thrice's "Stare at the Sun." I guess that means they're the most memorable to me.

Paper or Microsoft Word that's the ?

I just started leasing a new powerbook - required by the school I attend - that came with the newest office suite. I have almost completely gone paperless, using Word notebooks for songs. Its just so easy to keep everything sorted: I can have a tab for notes about the song, a tab for the first...

    Help me! i copy subconciously!

I think the most frustrating thing is finishing a song and realizing that it probably isn't one you'll want to play out. It's very frustrating to look at songs as stepping stones to better craft.

    bandstand or not??

If you're really interested in writing and performing your own material, thats what you should do. The question you need to answer is whether or not you can balance that with this country hits cover band. Would you don't have enough time to learn songs for the band AND concentrate on writing...
