Drum mic kit for under $200?

You can get good results with as little as 3 mics (kick, snare, one overhead = mono), you can get ok results without a snare mic. You will not get ok results with a Samson kit. Buy a good kick mic and an SM57. Use the SM57 as overhead until you can buy a condenser, then shift the SM57 to snare...

Indeed, I don't get fashion, we've all been laughing at those big rim glasses since the 80's, hadn't we? And here they are again, prefectly hip. :wtf: I'm waiting for those early 90's satalite dish hairdo's for girls to come back, that was horrible, wasn't it? It'll give the hairspray business...

Repairing condenser mics, any tips out there?

OK, thanks, I'll try that. Caps are the same as Dynamics right; no resistance equals dead capsule? Are there such things as internal parts that are, in general, prone to quit?

    Shure 55SH

This is one of an aray of discontinued Amphenol / Switchcraft mic plugs. Used ones go for insane prices on ebay, around $60 if I'm correct. I've converted vintage mics to regular XLR mics in the past, but you'll have to resort to drastic measure (saws, drills etc.).

Repairing condenser mics, any tips out there?

I've been repairing dynamic mics for years and I've become very good at it. Of course there not much inside them. But I also have a stack of AKG and Sennheiser SDC's which I made some half hearted attempts at, but put aside again. :( A common problem seems to be that they "kind of"...

    Distortion

The Boss "Heavy Metal" sounds heavy and growling, like a truck, used by many pro bands (I hate all other Boss distortions). You can also go for the Ibanez Tube Screamer, Celtic Frost used those, but it's a bit more thrashy, like a chainsaw. Though the Tube Screamer has been reinvented many...

Buying my first condenser today! help!

The "pop" can hurt your ears. Be careful with your ears, you're gonna need them. ;)

I need help with my mic and preamp!

A condenser mic needs phantom power. Ussually a mixer or preamp has a phantom power on/off switch. This phantom power is then supplied through your XLR cable. Your preamp has no phantom power switch, so it will never work.

Ow. Touchy are we? :cursing: Jim Lad might be slightly overreacting, but in essence he has a point. You're obviously pushing your own product, which is hardly an objective point of view, now is it? PS. Do you expect me to read all that?
